Shout out to Coal Man for the recommendation on this one. I really like the opening on this one compared to Tobacco Vanille, although I think TV projects more and lasted a bit longer. TV seems to have a stronger tobacco note, where as the Herod has a more cinnamon and incense emphasis. I really like both and will rotate through them. Really excited for the Perry Ellis Oud Black Vanilla Absolute to arrive to compare to these two.

Hate the opening on this one. It's as if I was inhaling an aerosol version of Irish Spring soap. It does subtle out, and it is a clean enjoyable fragrance after a few minutes. Not something I see myself buying again after this 2ml is gone. For what it's worth, I don't like really enjoy Cool Water either, but this is definitely better. Figured I had to try it once.

Probably because it's the most worn. It's the Affliction of fragrances. Tryhard wanna be cool fit in with the in crowd kinda vibe. I would be embarassed to wear it, personally. But lots of people like it.

You're saying it's really widespread and used by people trying to fit in but remember you're in this bubble where you hear folks talk about sauvage all the time. That's the fraghead curse lol.

The vast, VAST majority of "the actual crowd" don't know what sauvage even is. I've had girls smell this on me, and compliment me numerous times. I've asked them and many others if they've smelled this before and they said no. Some of them even flat out ask "wow what is that you're wearing??"

I have so many frags now and I still wear it because it just simply smells great.

Really glad you liked the Herod man. You're very right, it's less tobacco than the TV and more on that cinnamon and incense. What really gets me is how smooth it is throughout. I appreciate that alot.

Scent of the Evening: Areej Le Dore - Baikal Gris

For what it's worth, I don't like really enjoy Cool Water either, but this is definitely better. Figured I had to try it once.

EDIT: Finally feel comfortable turning off all notifications I had for the frag groups. With the PDLN2 atomizer pickup and the 10ml of Diaghilev, I really shouldn't be looking to acquire anything new (excluding Areej or Bortnikoff releases) for a long time. I'm even set for spring and summer with Saudi Arabia, Bortnikoff Colognes, and Creed Aventus Cologne on deck. Feels good man, this hobby has been a money pit.


...but for real, if any of you boyos see a bottle of Qatar going for a steal shout lol

Those of you into Diaghilev/Mitsuko chypre style frags should really get your nose on this gem. A beautiful creamy chypre that is a million times more wearable than Diaghilev to me. This is an old school style frag that is a powerhouse. 1 spray is good enough, 2 is probably overkil. Luckscent just started carrying the line, so they have samples.

I just dont get this one. I've tried the EDT, EDP, and have now worked into the Parfum sample and I just dont get the hype. I neither hate it nor do I like it. It's just there. Bland, boring, no real redeeming qualities about the scent itself. (Im only 90 minutes into wearing it today though)

To see one of the BdC offerings on almost every 'Essential Must Have Top 10' list is a real head scratcher. None of them resonate with me in any way. Very thankful for the person from FGN who gifted me samples of these because if I paid for this crap I'd be really disappointed.

Scent of the Morning: Roja Dove - Aoud

Still chugglng away with my deformed bottle. I'm glad this scent really is full bottle worthy to me because i could never resell it. But the 70ish ml i got for $275 was a fuking steal.

Those of you into Diaghilev/Mitsuko chypre style frags should really get your nose on this gem. A beautiful creamy chypre that is a million times more wearable than Diaghilev to me. I layed into this one on basenotes. Because I had it held to the same standard of Diaghilev and Mitsouko. Yes both frags are challenging, but there's tons of nuances and subtleties to enjoy. I found Chypre Siam to be just "straight quality oakmoss", no real layers or complexities to be picked out.

Someone on Basenotes agreed with me and said it's for people that "can't get enough of the old pre INFRA oakmoss smells" which i definitely understand, but this is essentially a "daily driver office safe chypre" and that was the last thing I wanted.

Edit: On second thought, I believe Roja's Musk Aoud is the perfect middle ground of musk/oakmoss frag that's challenging but can be pulled off at the office. Though it's also a bagillion dollars more expensive.

Stopped at Ulta during lunch for a little looksies.

Finally put my nose to Sauvage Parfum. My impressions are only from a test strip but I think it smells pretty damn good. I dont know what all these people are tripping about. The initial opening doesn't smell like Sauvage at all, only after 30-45 seconds does it smell familiar. Opening is very citrus heavy, not sharp at all like the original. I still swear the smell of EDP is the best of the bunch, but EDT has the best performance.


Aqua di Gio Absolu smells pretty damn good. Way, way better than Profumo. It sits confidently in the 'not a freshie, but not quite a woodsy' scent category.

Boss 'The Scent' Absolute also impressed me. But it's very much in line with 1981x and Herod so I really dont need another spicy, vanilla, cinnamony type of scent but it was certainly nice.

The Aventus cologne hate I totally get though. Lol. Does it smell good? I'm sure it does.

Is it as good as Aventus? Probably not. I understand you have no use for Aventus in your personal arsenal and also have a bias against it because it's overhyped but most people would agree the original is better. Normally this isn't bad but it's bad when the original was hailed as the 2nd coming of Jesus.

On top of that, a cologne version which has less performance than the original should no doubt be cheaper than the original. It isn't and people think it's overpriced for what it is. Especially since this doesn't really add anything. It's a fresher, less fruity Aventus.

Third, Creed has been getting alot of hate for its batch inconsistencies. So then you have a whole legion of fans who want Aventus to be Aventus again and not some weaker shell of the original that doesn't perform. Lots of folks are even saying that parfums vintage are legit making a better Aventus than current Aventus. So we know what customers wanted. What they do? Release a cologne version instead of Aventus Intense.

Would people buy Aventus Intense? Fuk yeah. Would people complain if Aventus Intense was the same price as Aventus cologne? Nope.


So yeah that Creed thing is a special case. I'm sure if Aventus was still great and they released this cologne version that was half the price, fanboys would be creaming themselves and hailing it as fragrance of the year. For an unoriginal, weaker, yet more expensive flanker, that's gonna be a no. I personally don't have any feelings towards this release but I can totally understand where the hate comes from.

Scent of the evening: Sauvage EDP. Personally, the EDP is the sweet spot for me with Sauvage. The parfum is just off for me. Really, really enjoy it and would consider a full bottle purchase once I’m out of some other frags that I’m meh on.

Finally got to smell Tom Ford Oud Wood this weekend. Hands down the best scent of that brand I’ve smelled

sigh... why doth the lord tempt me? I was just coming ITT to rant about a new potential love i randomly discovered from a stray sample i had laying around... Bedtime Scent: Bogue Profumo - MEM

I tried Maai which has a massive love or hate cult following like Creation-E. I didn't like it. I tried their other offering O/E. Didn't like that one either. But MEM? fuk... this could be a third Bortnikoff release "Jasmine Cologne".

It has a kitchen sink listing of over 20 notes but it smells great. Sometimes i'm getting whifs of Jasmine and Florals. Other times i'm getting whiffs of honeyed bourbon and musk. Of course luckyscent is sold out of bottles so i was debating if i should bite the bullet and source a bottle from their UK distributor. THIS is why i've unfollowed the frag groups. Just thought i'd spritz on an unworn sample for the night, now i'm scavenging the globe on yet another "limited run" highend fragrance.

Yes, I like it better than the Profumo, but it's a bit softer and doesn't last as long. I have the Code Ultimate, too. And the original Black Code, before it got PC and renamed to just Code. That stuff is true beast mode.
