Which of these body types do you guys think contributed/helped in making more successful bodybuilders? Do you think that bodybuilders with a specific body type always or more often dominated the stages (Olympia, Arnold, Ironman... etc.) or always had an advantage over other bodybuilders?

it doesn't really matter, so long as there is alot of muscle on their frame, bone structure is important though. smaller bones are usually considered preferrable due to the 'illusion' of having more muscle. wide shoulders are most definitely neccesary. BUT, as with everything, there are exceptions. IE: heath and cutler...

Depends on what kind of body your looking for. For a classic bodybuilder, a mix of ecto and meso would be ideal. You'd have good potential for LBM with tiny joints on a wide frame. Mix of both.
However, back in reality any bodytype can do well. A pure ecto with some drug assistance/hard work can gain quite a bit of mass and have tiny joints to pull it all together. Meso's can generally put on more mass to balance out their bigger structure. Endo's gain easily, they simply need to watch fat gain....Last edited by T3mpest; 04-23-2008 at 02:51 AM.

Aren't endomorphs generally the biggest though? Also the biggest joints. And how true is it that they actually have problems getting cut? I mean it takes more discipline, but generally the pro's have that when it comes to dieting. I always thought pure meso was best for bodybuilding.

Problem with any type of endo's is they end up usually with such a wide waist. And thats when we get the blocky jay cutler waist most times its with endo's sometime meso. I think a ecto meso definatly like others say, look at levrone, really small waist yet big delts n over all big, arnold, ronnie had a pretty small waist pre gut. Dex, flex.

Most Amateurs are on much more gear then most pros...Pros have the genetics which is the most important factor,then give some Igf-1 and Hgh and some test(way less then some amateurs use,i saw some guys going throught a ****load of test per week)and a nutritionist and a trainer and you got yourself a FREAK...

True nuff man, its like you see most amatuers staying in amauter ranks for years and never making it past that on tons of gear. Yet a pro comes out still natural blows up in a couple years natural, gets on a little bit of juice and freakin blows through the amauter ranks and is doing pro qualifer's by age 20-21 lol. Hell look at the list of pros at 21, or around 21, or about to be pro's even today, trey, lee priest, jay, gunther, arnold, serge, prince, levrone, almost the whole freakin line up of pro;s were pro early 20s or they were abit later in life only because they started training much later.

yeah but if you actually look at levrones shoulder structure, its tiny! Take a look at his most muscular, his chest is about as wide as heaths. But he made up for it with those massive delts, which can largely be attributed to his inserts.
I dont buy into the body type theory. Everyone has traits from each of them. And gaining mass and losing weight is MUCH more than genetics/body type. Its about knowing your caloric needs and adjusting your intake to accomdate them. I could even go as far as saying that early stage eating patterns could determine certain body traits such as hip size, shoulder width, ect. So not everyone is nescessarily born into a specif body type, but it CAN (not does) come with enviromental factors like diet, mainly.
The best is when skinny guys claim to be ectos, when they have phat structures (wide shoulders, narrow hips) but are very skinny. They think its in their genetics to be that way; "Man I eat like SOO much food, I CANT gain weight". NO brahs, its about eating consistently, not missing more than 1 or 2 meals a week (IF THAT). These are the same guys who claim to have become mesos after training and eating right. To many inconsistencies with body types that I just believe everyone is a combination of each.Sudbury Ontario championships july june 11 2011 - 5th light heavy weight class

Definatly agree man, alot of people do got a BIG mixture of each bodytype. You can see really skinny guys but with HUGE waist/pelvic bones and ribcages. And you can see pretty chubby guys with SKINNY wrist and small waist too. But yea you do see the big boned guys with FAST metabolisms too that cant gain weight yet they got these huge bone frames. I think levrone was a weird mix of ecto meso, he had such a small bone frame yet he could pack on mass so easily and only trained for 6 months of the year past 2002 i think it was.
