I don't get the point of pre workout, why not drink red bull or monster before a workout?

You can. Or coffee, caffeine pills.
Some preworkouts...if formulated well provide benefits outside of just energy. Like pump, endurance, focus, power.
It depends what you are looking for in a pre workoutType 1 Diabetic - Since age 15

Many people do just that. But a good Pre, as mentioned above, will also offer pumps and focus without a jittery feeling that many get with Monster/RedBull. A good pre energy will last longer without a crash as well.
But you still have to try different pre's as these benefits are felt differently by everyone, depending on how the body reacts to the different substances.2017 OCB Men's Physique Open 4th place

There is a big difference OP. Give it a chance and you will see that a Preworkout does more than just provide energy.
You can target preworkouts with different ingredients that deliver focus, pumps, etc.

It doesn't taste like coffee lol

If OP answers my question, it's going somewhere. I'm betting OP has reasons for an energy drink over a caffeine pill, and I'm betting I can correlate those reasons to a pre over a monster. Or he might just make the realization on his own, combined with other responses particularly.

I mean, if money isn't an issue and people enjoy the taste of their energy drinks, there isn't much of a difference other than cost.
If feelings of energy is the only goal then it doesn't matter so much, but if people want either additional pump or focus ingredients that's where the pre will start to be the better value and choice."I'm pretty sure your wrong, but care to elaborate..."

Better value: cost per serving
Higher quality ingredients
Better all around formulas: Combination of energy and focus in conjunction with pump and endurance.
IMO better taste options: but I'm in Canada where energy drinks are poverty.
More variety in effects: energy drinks pretty much all use the exact same ingredients and have almost identical effects. PWO's also often use the same ingredients, but you can find products that specialize more on energy, some specialize more on focus, some more on pump etc.
Energy drinks kind of suck compared to PWO in my books, and I would opt for coffee before an energy drink in any case, so there's that.Squat and Deadlift
