Even taking cell tech out of the equation it is mainly genetics and diet that seperates physiques way more so than training method or rep ranges. In football we all lifted pretty much like powerlifters, tons of 5x5s, mainly power movments, very little high rep or hypertrophy work. And guess what? Some guys looked like fat PLs, some still didnt look like they lifted at all and some were lean and aesthetic, all doing the exact same workouts.

Naturally a red would make this thread. Lifting for strength =/= lifting for aesthetics. Strength training vs hypertrophy training. You don't have to be Einstein to understand this.

This has always been me. I love trying new foods especially when I travel but other than that, food has always just been something I have to do to stay alive. Most Americans spend their day thinking and looking forward to their next meal/snack. Mix that in with not working out and you get lots of fat fuks

Because strength training has nothing to do with gaining muscle; gaining muscle is the secondary effect that may come with strength training, but how much muscle is gained depends on genetics, diet of every individual. I know a guy at my gym and school that’s a twig, lighter than myself yet he’s deadlifting over 450lb.

Strength training and hypertrophy training are different, but have some correlation.
I finally hit 275 on bench for 6 reps (top 10% in my gym i would assume). I'm a big guy but I'm carrying a good amount of extra body fat. My physique is not as good as the aesthetic guys in my gym, but i outlift them significantly on most lifts. I'm cutting right now but if I lose too much strength i'd rather be a bit of a bloatmog than lean/ripped and small. Just a personal preference, i like being an imposing presence inside and outside of the gym.

Obviously as one poster said, genetics has alot to do with it. But I'd argue training styles makes a huge difference as well, particularly when natural.
It comes down to priorities. If you train to maximize one skill/ability, then chances are other things will suffer. If you spend 1+ hour deadlifting, squatting, benching with low reps/long rest periods in order to get as strong at those lifts as possible, you're not going to have the energy or time to improve you're 5k rowing max for ultimate vo2 max and fat burning or do 20 rep squats to failure for leg size or do lateral raise drop sets for capped shoulders or whatever it is people do to enhance cardio/aestethics/fat burning, and chances are even if you do, all those things will come into conflict with recovery and the ability to maximize top end strength. So these people who are obsessed with their DL/SQ/B maxes, usually discard all training that interferes with this objective.
So instead of doing a hard interval workout to burn off some of those love handles or throwing in some lateral raises/upright rows for capped delts, they prioritize doing an hour of 4-board presses to increase lockout strength on their bench or dynamic effort box squats or whatever, and in what world does that contribute to aestethics?
The one thing that seems to be a recurring theme with aestethic natties is the intensity of the training, not as % of numbers but as in ability to generate alot of lactic acid/pain during their workouts and keep pushing, even if dieting or low on energy.

If you can't squat 2x your body weight and find excuses to not get stronger you are a weak twink
Fact
But bubbut strength doesn't equal aesthetics. Soyboy takeover has ruined the misc
Brb squat a Max of 185...but spends an hour supersetting calf raises, leg extensions and hamstring curls
Deadlifts 225 gets kicked out of planet fitness, getting too big bro

Genetics, diet, training, and lifestyle.
It all boils down to your value system as Bobby said in an earlier comment. If you value being lean then obviously you'll see to it that you become a lean "aesthetic" brah. If you place your value towards strength and seeing progress in the gym other than the mirror - then you obviously have "strength training"
At the end of the day I don't see why any of that matters. We're all going to die eventually. Do what you love and find a balance. I realize now that for the past few months, no matter how twinkish small I am, I placed way too much value towards being shredded to **** and being "lean" for day to day life. I rarely went out, I declined to go eat out with family and friends, and my social life went to utter **** for it. My training still progressed in some way and sure I got leaner...but at the end of the day, will any of that vain **** matter?
Dieting down gives you some sort of body image issues IMO - at least it did in my case.
I think the best approach to life again is to find balance in life and do what you like. You wanna eat that donut and lift some ****in heavy ass weights? Go for it. Go out and eat - nobody will give a fuk once we're all rotting dead. There's no excuse for getting obese in the process but there's also no excuse to never progress in the gym other than staying small and shredded. Get the best of both worlds srs.
I'm maybe one of the biggest zyzz nutthugers (no homo) and truly believe in being "aesthetic" but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. A lot of guys on the misc here are cutting when they shouldn't be and following auschwitz starvation diets (myself as an example, and many other people on PSMF) when instead we should be bulking up. I also see the beauty in being a huge bear.
Fukin stop makin stupid threads and causing arguements OP and just lift and do whatever the FUK you wanna do.
Rant over.

Bottom line...
If a fluffy PLer or gym goer and I, looking as I do in my avi, are walking shirtless down the beach the average beach goer will think;
"That old fart is ripped, he must be really strong."" Not so for the fluffy PLer/gym goer.
/threadShe approached with her hand extended,. I slowly stepped back. "No" she said. "I just want to shake your hand. You're amazingly gorgeous." As she walked by me she copped a biceps feel.

Quoted for truth, with a major emphasis on diet being the number one contributing factor to aesthetics.
Nobody will even look twice at the fluffy dude. Fat and big are pretty much synonymous in most peoples' minds anyways. Every fat guy in the world thinks that he is "big". It is pretty easy to lift heavy a few times a week and eat at buffets every day. Dieting is where the self control and discipline comes in. Big with abs/leanness is admirable, but nobody really admires a huge fat dude, they just think that he must eat a ton of food or was born "big boned".Last edited by RonaldMcflurry; 03-22-2018 at 08:29 AM.

i am currently 182 @5'10" hovering around 14-15% bf, which is pretty much optimal for me.
I'd like to get to 185 @ 10% or less body fat, and be aesthetic, while still maintaining that strength.
wen i was 195 i was bloatmax and pretty strong for what i'm working with (1156 total) (chit genetics) but wasn't happy with the aesthetics.
I also have to run a lot which inhibits optimal gains. now i pursue aesthetics while maintaining optimal strengthOnce a son of light, now a creature in the night

This. Fuk all this talk about training for aesthetics vs strength. Lifting is a fuking hobby for 99% of people at the gym, & for most of them without body image or eating disorders, they can't be bothered to micromanage their diets day-in & day-out or use supplements to maximize their aesthetics. This thread is like a comic book nerd who religiously reads comics asking a Batman forum why everybody who loves the movies doesn't also read all the comics.

I notice there are alot of guys with good physiques but below average in other things (short, ugly face, ethnic). far more than if I went out and hung out in a siimlar age group at a bar/club/party.
Pretty sure this is because these men realize their limitations and are trying to compensate with muscles.-Max Squat drops from 415 to 200 after going 1 degree past 90 degree knee bend crew.

In my gym, all the people doing PL routines are skinny kids between 16-22. They wear their tights, neon socks, and use a crap ton of chalk to deadlift 225. Not really mirin.
Most of the people with the best physiques lift moderate-heavy weight for 10ish reps.

Dude just stop, seriously. Some of your points are valid, but you are trying way too fkin hard.
i've haven't even broken 180 yet, but I've had random people in a fkin Costco come up to me and ask me for training/dieting advice. And i'm nothing impressive to look at compared to the miscers you're debating with."So there I am sitting in the waiting area of the hair salon with my niece and Keanu Reeves walks in. I was nervous as ****, but too scared to say anything to him. Then my niece started crying, and I’m trying to quiet her down because I don't want to bother him. Pretty soon he walks over and asks what's wrong. I replied that she was probably hungry. He put down his magazine, picked up my niece, and lifted up his shirt, and breastfed her right there in the salon. Chill guy, really nice about it."
