I'm in the market for some 100 pounds plates and ran across these local to me. How is the lip on these plates? 100 pound plates can be a pain to handle if there's nothing to grab onto.
I have no idea if this embed will work or not:

I sent the guy an offer and he said he wanted $300 for the pair. He'll never get that in this market, so I suppose I'll wait him out awhile.

Anybody else take advantage of the current sale on the Legacy DB's? $.50/pound is really tempting depending on how much the shipping sets you back. How is the quality of the newer DB's vs the older one's (all things being equal and not considering the cosmetic issues on the sale DB's)? I hate how the split sleeve's have gone away on the barbells - have there been changes to the DB's as well? Uhh

I ordered pairs of 100, 110, 120, 125(because these were the last pair in stock), 130, 140, 150. Shipping was just over $150. They will be arriving tomorrow. I sold my matching numbered pro styles for $0.50 per pound so I'm just out shipping. I'll post Picts, or at least try to.
A friend ordered a full set from 105-150. I stopped by today and they look great. I'll be ordering the odd numbers as soon as I raise some cash. These are a good compliment to anyone who has sets of roubdheads or globes

After a fairly long dryspell, I was able to help out with the mission of preserving vintage iron. Found and picked up 290lbs. of vintage York plates while visiting family on an out of town trip. Includes, 4-45's, 2-25's, 2-10's, 6-5's, 4-2.5's. All of the 45's and 25's are milled 1-10, 1-5, 1-2 1/2 are milled.
Now OK for Sig line to be a novel

I've been fallowing this thread for a while wanting my own roundheads. Being in AZ they don't exactly pop up, in the past 3 years I've been looking I have found just 1, not a set but 1, 15lb roundhead. I was just going to order on eBay and such until I saw a post about the sale. I ordered a set that ended up to be $0.80lb delivered to AZ, well under the $1.20lb and up on eBay. They arrived and clearly the paint sucked so I did what anybody would do and started sandblasting them. It revealed that the legacy castings had significantly more imperfections then the roundheads. Some of of the castings were assembled lopsided and most have some pitting/voids in the cast. I have blasted gray hex dumbbells in the past and I would say that the legacies are in between a Walmart hex and a roundhead in forge quality. If you didn't know most modern forged dumbbells are coated with a white/gray bondo substance that smooths out the imperfections prior to paint. With these $.050 legacies it appears the factory got out of control with the application of the bondo. I'm busting out my grinder to smooth things out and throw some jb weld in the big voids then repainting.

Could you see the chips and voids when they first arrived, or did those show up during/after sandblasting? Would it have been better to repaint instead of sandblasting them? There are some threads on here that warn about sandblasting weights as it could destroy any putty, etc that was used. Just curious how bad of shape they were in when they first arrived.

I am not a fan of sandblasting. If one were to blast, one should use a less aggressive medium.
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Last few people I've heard that contacted her didn't said it took forever to get a response.. like 3 months. Not sure what's going on there. I just shopped around for a few Legacy Olympic plates and Yorkbarbell.com actually had the best prices shipped. I should be getting them next week.

I could not see the voids when they arrived but the paint was chipped, I'm going to assume that part of the fact that these looked so bad is due to the factory coating them in the putty in a very sloppy way. I think think this combo of a brittle paint exterior with the soft putty/bondo underneath makes it easier to chip much like the hammered hex dumbbell finish. After completely removing the factory finish and hitting it with a coat of satin the look and texture is almost the same as the factory photo. The blaster I use has plastic media and is less harsh on the metal itself, it does remove the putty but being just filler it poses no structural damage. I said sand blast because most people don't identify with PMB (plastic media blast). If you don't have access to a blaster you could sand smooth the lumps and defects in the finish then repaint. The only downside is it would retain the brittleness if you knocked them together. I'll provide pictures of all of this if someone wants to give me a hand posting them.

I would try hitting her on Linkedin or something, maybe even calling York directly to get her number. I believe I have her phone somewhere, the savings she provided we re SUBSTANTIAL compared to anything I found online and shipping was decent. It's been a while so maybe things have changed, but she pretty much could take 30-35% off of ANYTHING in the York catalog.

At $0.50/pound during the sale, I viewed the Legacy DB's as a "used" item. If I found them on craigslist for that price I'd snatch them up and repaint them. I'm planning on doing the same thing with the pairs I ordered from York. I'm just hoping there's not gashes or chunks out of them. I expect chipped paint, but I can easily fix that.

If I didn't buying them as a discount/defect item I would not have been happy receiving them packed like that. I would hope and expect them to package shipments of new plates much better then this!
During my workout tonight I noticed one of my dumbbells the handle has a very slight wobble/loose feel to it. I just emailed york to see if they will do anything about it. They state there is no warranty on these but it also states these are cosmetic defects only which this isn't. So I'll see if they correct this or not.Last edited by turbolsxstang; 09-22-2017 at 09:04 PM.

Well if I had to do it over with the $0.50 legacy dumbbells I would not blast them. The juice isn't worth the squeeze. In the end it makes more sense to grind out the larger imperfections then use a DA sander and sand smooth the existing finish/filler. The only advantage to blasting these is that the YORK becomes crisp with all the crap removed. It's hard having a large set of Ivanko plates with excellent forgings and these turds next to them. Should have paid a premium for some roundheads.
