I am actually surprised how easy it is to set this up with freight carriers. You're correct, not a big deal at all. And yeah, this will be a pallet delivery.
Does Mr. Skrebs know you are volunteering his services to a few chaps he doesn't know? haha.
It's all good, I hate putting other people out. I have a feeling this will work out well.

The holes in the weights will make it easy to tie down to the pallet. Can snake rope or straps every which way to hold them in place. If they were flat slabs of iron I can see how that would be more tricky.

i don't have a problem hauling a few plates around and i'm also probably in far less of a rush to get these plates out of my basement than you are to get them into your gym. i have the space and i'm a busy guy lol.
take your time and find the way that saves you the most money; i'm fine with whatever works for you.
i was thinking to myself how i was going to shrink wrap these lol. hoist them on the palate and raise them off the ground and just go at it i guess lol...
ties make more sense. keep in mind i'm a moron about this stuff so make sure you do research and find the best way to secure them to the palate. i think you're right with snaking rope through.
i'm not sending you nudes.Domicron's Basement Gym and Fun House

Dom/dieselmike,
Having been in the freight business driving 18 wheelers for nearly 20 years I'll give you my 2 cents. I do ltl delivery, see all sorts of odd stuff.
I would try to crate them, strapping them naked on a skid is a bad idea. Set them on the skid and get some 2x4 and plywood or another skid to top it off. This time of year the temporary dock help (or full time help for that matter) WILL tear up your stuff. Ordinarily no big deal, however since these plates can't be replaced packaging makes all the difference in safe freight travel.
Remember the cheapest freight quote is cheapest for a reason. Good luck.SQ 475# 5/26/17 wraps

Umm, you traveling east bound on Interstate 70 anytime soon? In all seriousness, thanks for the advice. Will take that into consideration.
OK. Who's this Newman and is this for real or some inside joke I am not aware of? I'd certainly rather pay a member here who's making that run rather than some unknown freight carrier.▪█──────█▪ Equipment Crew #64 ▪█──────█▪

Sweet! Is that Mech's work as well in your pic?
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

I have plates shipped to me from all over the country each month. Including full barbell sets (triplex, duplex, etc). Right now I have 6 Jackson plates and 2 old Eleiko plates on their way to me from Seattle, WA to Reading, PA. I always utilize the local FedEx Ship Center near the seller. I normally have to toss in some extra bucks to get the seller to take the plates to the store but thats all they have to do. Drop them on the counter and I pay the FedEx store with my credit card for boxing and shipping.
Boxing is $13 per plate, and shipping is around $25-$50 per plate. So it does add up. But for convenience to the seller its unbeatable. For pallets I use www.freightquote.com and I have a good sales rep there. Out of respect to her I dont want to post her email here but PM me if you want it. I have also had people buy stuff from me and they use www.uship.com and a guy shows up in his pickup truck and you load the items right into it. I have never tried www.uship.com but keep telling myself I'm going to figure it out.[]---[] Ivanko Barbell Crew #58 []---[]

I've queried UPS/Fedex several times about ~50# packages, car parts and such, usually close to $50. Even at $45 x 8 packages is $360 plus packing. I would find it hard to believe you can't get a 400# skid moved for less. I would think ~$250 plus a skid should get it there LTL. Of course the freight industry is a mystery.
Got any extra York 10's? I know they'll go cheap USPS.SQ 475# 5/26/17 wraps

Dexter, that is awesome! I see you have the "45" numbered deep dish with the numbered 35s and 25s. I gather this era would be late 50's to 1967? My recollection from RockCRSHR's work on the subject is that "45" numbered deep dish plates may have gone back before the late 50's. And my set from the late 50's/early to mid-60's era--that I picked up from RockCRSHR has unmarked deep dish 45s. Any thoughts? Further research?
Oh, and I'm assuming the top plate on the second column is the 75?You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Str8out & moris. Thanks for the options. I will look into them. But based on the research I have done, so far the cheapest I have found is to load them up on a regular size pallet. And as long as you go from commercial loading dock to commercial loading dock, it is pretty reasonable. I did get a quote from www.freightquote.com They were somewhat competitive. But Uship came in cheaper. I didn't get an option about a guy with a pickup. That would be awesome. I am basically getting LTL rates.
Moris - I don't think Brain was saying individually boxed is the cheapest. I don't see how it can be. I think he was talking for simplicity of the shipper. But Domicrom is being beyond reasonable with me. He has access to a warehouse with a loading dock and/or forklift and I have access on my end to go to a commercial loading dock. So I think that is really the best bet in our case.
As soon as Domicron receives my payment I will instruct him on which way to go.▪█──────█▪ Equipment Crew #64 ▪█──────█▪
