True Detective will always be more about the personal relationships and development of the main characters rather than a show whose selling point is the overall plot. With that being said, in my mind, not only did season 1 have better characters and chemistry in Rust & Marty, the whole creepy Louisiana backdrop and cult dynamic was much more appealing to me than this corruption scandal (which we've essentially known the details of since episode 1).

I also thought Taylor when he got shot and creeping towards him gun shouting, "**** you" at Burress was great.
He kinda sucked all season but that scene had so much emotional charge and he pulled it off really well as a guy who wanted to live for his family, to be a good man and couldn't believe the card he was dealt after going through so much just previously.
It was brilliantly acted.
Burress being in the right place at the right time was a stretch though but I forgive it because everything else was superb.Joining Sherdog.com doesn't make you an MMA expert, reading Saucehead's threads don't make you a player and if describe yourself as an "alpha male", chances are, you're not one.

This isn't 100% but it might clear up the plot for you a bit.
1992
• Crooked cops (Lt. Burris and Teague Dixon) tipped Osip (Russian mobster) about a jewel store with expensive diamonds
• Osip and/or his men robbed the store, killed the owners and left 2 kids behind
• Mayor Chessani (who was already corrupt at this point and possibly involved with Burris and Dixon) adopted the 2 kids to brainwash them in the Chessani “family tradition” and prevent them from being witnesses (Tony and Betty Chessani are both Hispanic looking and reminiscent of the 2 kids of the dead jewel store owners seen in the photo in Episode 7. Plus given the 20+ year gap, their ages would make sense)
• Teague Dixon kept photos of the diamonds as insurance against his partner, Burris, and Osip
2011-2015
• Tony Chessani becomes a pimp and sets up escort parties with Ben Caspere to facilitate lucrative deals and collect blackmail on high profile people for his father to use
(1) Helene Chessani disapproved of the “highly inventive” family tradition (possibly what made Tony become so sex crazed and become a pimp)
(2) Mayor Chessani used Dr. Pitlor to keep her quiet by having her committed
• Caspere and Catalyst CEO McCandles meet at one of the parties and set up the land deal
• Mayor Chessani used Dixon to blackmail Osip into joining the land deal
• Osip buys in using the diamonds he stole (hence why they were in Caspere’s safe deposit box)
• Frank Semyon hears of this deal and sells off his assets to buy in, hoping to go legit (his $5 million that was in Caspere’s possession)
• Burris kills Caspere, leaving the land deal in gridlock and bankrupting Frank
• Burris gives Caspere’s goods to the Mexican pimp and hooker Irina to pawn to make it look like they robbed and killed Caspere
• Teague encourages the pawn shop lead to help frame the Mexican pimp for Caspere’s murder
• Burris dumps Caspere’s body to bring media attention and bog down the investigation
• Burris and Dixon manipulate the investigation from the inside, Dixon by encouraging the pawn shop lead and framing the Mexicans and Burris by shooting Velcoro when he got too close and collecting the hard drive that Caspere had.
• Knowing that Frank would go after the Mexicans, Chessani guaranteed that the criminal factions in Vinci would take each other out, leaving only Osip whom he controls. With that, Chessani gets to have a low crime rate in his city, furthering his career and Geldof gets to run for Governor on the same low crime rate. Not to mention, Osip would have connections to keep the Eastern Bloc women coming in for those partiesJoining Sherdog.com doesn't make you an MMA expert, reading Saucehead's threads don't make you a player and if describe yourself as an "alpha male", chances are, you're not one.

Look, i really like this show a lot, even this season which apparently everyone is crying about, but its pissing me the hell off with this:
the reason that NOBODY can keep up with the plot is:
all they do when addressing MAJOR PLOT POINTS is talk about people by their name, but when they actually INTRODUCE one of the million characters related to the plot, they only say their name like ONE TIME. how can i be expected to remember all 295969294195 side characters by their LAST NAME ONLY when all you do is mention it one phucking time.
i really think i have a way better attention span than most, and i pride myself in being able to keep up with chit but seriously, this season is so hard to keep up with who everyone is and why theyre important.Cologne Crew

Well the bird man came back. I'm pretty stoked that they pulled an Errol Childress, I was thinking it was Chesani's son the whole time. Interested to see if he comes back to play, other than owning that company. And Vince Vaughn really nailed this episode, I think the writers finally quit trying to go back and look at a thesaurus and change his lines up with bigger words for this episode.

Best episode of the season imo. I like the corruption storyline, but it's not as gripping as the bayou satanist thing from S1. Like someone said earlier, the plot in S1 was not what reeled everyone in, it was the acting of Rust and Hart, along with the imagery. The conclusion of S1 was subpar, S2 seems like it may peak at the finale.

Same thing happened when Bezerides ran out of the hooker party with the girl...she opens one window out of 100 in the house and poof! theres her partners waiting outside. Some disbelief can be suspended to move along the plot and stick to time constraints, but at times it really does get regoddamndiculous.

So am I the only one thinking that Velcoro is the guy who raped Mcadams and that is who she saw in those flashbacks?

I went back and watched that scene, you're right about the age. But the dialogue was odd when they were at the table, "you're not a bad man" "do you miss it" maybe she's attracted to him in some ****ed up way because of the dark hair and dark facial hair. She wanted to **** him as soon as they got back to the hotel after her drug trip, who knows maybe it's simpler than I'm making it out to be.
