In a professional environment the way she came to the interview is a no-no. If it was more of a laid-back programming environment, her dress was totally fine.
But obviously she didn't get denied only because of her clothes (which ofc could be enough to not give her the job already), but also because she came off as not professional.

My thoughts exactly.
Maybe if she came in without the purse.
Truly for a programming job I wouldn't care what they wore as long as it wasnt too crazy.
We have a chick in my office that wears low cut chit all the time for her bewbz to show. I could not care less.
nb4 company speaks out and come to find out she has no experience and thats what lost her the job

I'm pretty anti-third wave feminism but I actually feel sorry for her in this instance -if- what she says is actually how it went down.
She's just dressed normally and it's obviously an office where informal dress is the norm. Assuming she actually was good enough at the job the recruiter could have just given her feedback about her dress sense and not denied her the opportunity.

Its not guess work. If you want the job, dress up. Look on the website to find out what kind of company they are. If you can walk in to see the place, do it. Make note of how people are dressed, chat somebody up for a few minutes. Ask other programmers how they dressed for their interview at the places they work.
As a general rule, I wouldn't go in without a collared shirt and business-casual pants. Minimum. For a woman, the same thing would apply. She could have worn a blouse with a nice pair of pants or even a professional looking skirt.

In the article she describes her own outfit as a "T-shirt and cardigan". I would not have hired a dude wearing that either. If you can't be bothered with a jacket, at least show some respect by wearing a fuking collar.
That recruiter is a giant dumbass for telling her that though."Listen here you beautiful bitch, I'm about to fuk you up with some truth." -me
