Just bought my first double edge razor - Merkur, will try it this weekend.
Btw, for any London brahs who want a professional shave, don't go to the Refinery, go to Geo Trumper - much better (and cheaper too)."If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation." - David Brent

So after my third shave with a DE my neck is still not enjoying it. I get really bad razor burn. Don't really cut myself, just burns and bumps. I think one of the problems is I am going over the same spot a few times instead of once. There's also this one part of my neck that I can't seem to get to no matter what angle I shave at. Anyone got on tips on how to stop the burns and bumps? I always shave after a shower.

Have you tried a different blade? Just remember to use a light touch and the razor do the work. It take time but your face will adjust. Next time you get ready to shave pay attention to the way your facial hair grows. You will see that it does grow I'm different directions on certain parts of your face. You will just need to learn where those arrasw are when you do your first WTG pass.

I would avoid going over a spot that doesn't have any cream on it. It was tough for me to get used to that because it's not an issue when you're using cartridge blades, but it can definitely cause irritation when done with a DE.
It's hard to grasp the concept of "beard reduction" when making the switch. With most razors, especially a mild one like many non adjustable razors, you aren't always going to get all of the hairs with one pass. Go over everything once, relather, and go over again. You'll get the rest on the next pass.
I was having similar issues when I used the DE89 and I eventually figured out that it wasn't for me. I couldn't get a close enough shave with such a mild razor so I was having to go over spots several times. My skin just wouldn't tolerate all those passes and I would get razor burn. The DE89 is a solid razor and most people have zero issues with it, but it wasn't for me. Now that I use a more aggressive razor I only need 2 passes WTG to get a close shave, and I spare myself from having to go over the same spots too many times. No irritation anymore either.
Try some different blades to see if that's the issue, it very well could be. Or maybe you just haven't nailed down your technique yet.
Not saying you should abandon the DE89 yet, just something to think about.

Fukk, aftwr reading the last few posts, I'm scared of using the Derbys that are coming with my razor lol I didn't order any extras because I just wanted to use those for starters. Might as well give them a shot and order some samples in the meantime

I use feathers on the regular, and those are sharp as fuk. But because they're so sharp they actually give the smoothest shave IMO since they almost effortlessly slice right through your wiskers

I had a look on badger and blade forum and its shows you step by step. As I said, this is completely new to me so for $10 its worth a shot. The steps something along the lines of letting it soak in alcohol then letting it sit in boiling water. Any other advice would be awesome!
