They've battled the cult of Moloch for 50 years

They didn't give up because of "demographic shifts" that saw the country move towards atheism

They didn't care if their position was unpopular

They didn't purity test Trump for not being Christian enough, they compromised and in the end his election gave them what they always wanted.

Take not people who want to give up and just let Democrats win because "demographics are destiny" or write off every winning right wing candidate who isn't 100% perfect, Christians lost virtually every battle except the most important ones and won their war.
