I just started taking fish oil about a month ago. A few weeks into taking the caps, I noticed something bizzare and it's kind of embarassing and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
My gas has become atrocious (not sure if I spelled that right). I don't have more gas than I normally would. It's the fact that when I do, the smell is discusting. It's enough to make you want to gag. *blushes* Anyone else have this problem? I'd hate to have to stop taking the fish oils because of this.

I totally understand....and I don't know what to do about it either. It is awful, if I could kick myself out of bed at night...I would. I did not know what it was that was doing it...but now that you mentioned the fish oil, I think it started when I started taking those too. I started taking them about a month ago also. The worse is when I drink a protein shake with milk and I am taking fish oils. Hopefully, someone else will have ideas.

OMG I KNEW IT!!! I just began taking the cod liver oil myself...and ever since I have had bad gas too...the guy at the store mentioned that people sometimes experience this, but rarely...and of course I am one of them!!!
I think I remember him saying something about putting the capsuls in the freezer or something...because that lessens the chance of a reaction. But I'm not sure...has anyone else heard of doing that?

Here's a couple of links that might help:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...&highlight=gas - it's suggested that you use a digestive enzyme to stop it in this thread.
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...&highlight=gas - another one about problems with gas

Re: gas issue
My boyfriend took fish oil for a while and he had the same problem. I have also seen the same question posted in several other message boards. I think it's safe to assume that yes, the fish oil causes the hideous smell. The health benefits are probably worth it though... just keep some air freshener nearby!

it's called having "repeats" ... you can either buy fish oil capsules that have a bit of flavor (like lemon, or strawberry) to make the "repeats" less atrocious, or you can get enteric-coated capsules which are supposed to prevent "repeats" by making sure that they do not dissolve in the stomach, but in the intestine where they are supposed to.
