It caught my attention when Nancy Pelosi began going after President W. Bush. Other Democrats began following her lead. Some began calling it Bush derangement syndrome. It was a nonstop largely dishonest vilification attacks being made.

Politically it appeared to work though, vilifying a political often conservative opponent. So long as Democrats feel the vilification works politically it will continue.

Unfortunately for society I suspect the vilification has grown legs, and has moves onto other people and topics.

It used to be considered poor social etiquette but then the government and media decided to double down on justifying and enabling hatred so long as it was directed at the people they deemed appropriate.
