So BB.com has been down a few times. This last one, well I kinda figured it might be done for good.
Felt bad that I never got to say 'bye' to a lot of very good people here. This place has been like a big dysfunctional family at times. And I might not express it a lot, I really do enjoy most of the people here. (despite the differences).
So I am not leaving. Still doing the same crap...day in day out. But in case this place ever goes dark.....
Just wanted to say it has been nice knowing many of you people here.

"Seems".... Just for the heck of it, I looked on the retail side. (the part that pays for this.). Their pricing is all jacked out and they are out of stock on things that are staples. Look at the case of ON 100% whey. Out of almost every flavor AND every size. What supplement site does not stock ON whey?.... Not looking good. I am thinking days are numbered....RAW lifts

Some of us have been here 15-20 years. It's definitely a fun part of the daily routine.
I don't really see any logical reason that they would kill the forums. There are lots of folks who wouldn't even think of using the store if they weren't already here on a regular basis. Plus they are selling ad space here now, so I don't think they would purposely walk away from the extra income generated in this section.

Most of the folks on here that I made real good friends with I have their number and also we connect via FB (which seems to be dying as well) however there are folks here not so close but still fun to chat with. And although I don't frequent here as much as I used to (hell I would post everyday multiple times a day) I notice a lot of my haters are gone or haven't posted either, what are we without haters? You know what they say, if you have haters you know you are doing something right

Maybe a good time to copy some useful resources from program section, not necessarily for myself but reference or advice to others. Grouchy's PowerBuilder program or whatever - I'm not turning all "Fierce5" on you Maybe today isn't the last day, but one day will be and we'll probably find out because it is down then it's too late. So save those resources.
I don't imagine the forums make them any money, the advertising revenue probably more than pays costs but it can't make much. One day they will realise that their bulletin Board software (vBulletin 4.1.4) has some security vulnerability that is a liability for them that can only be fixed by some major upgrade and it will cost them $XYZ to do that, they'll probably decide to pull the plug than invest in it, especially if they are running out of cashflow due to trading pressure. One day the switchoff will come
That's a good a plan

No panic. If BB.com goes under, I am sure they are not going to keep staff on to keep sites up. It may not be today or next week, but from where I am standing it does not look very good.
Been a good ride over here and wanted to say if the plug gets pulled tomorrow, I will miss many here. This place has occupied a significant portion of my life, and I really dont feel like I would have accomplished what I have without the help of many here. (most of those are long gone). Timberwolf, Ironwill, JerryB, Cmoore are some names that pop up but by no means the end of the list. Plus getting to share in others journeys has been great.
I will feel a sense of 'loss'. I am not a big social media person, and most all my relationships are confined to in-person interactions. But this one place has been different for me and I dont see anything that will replace that.
Guess I was just being reflective. Lots of good memories. I hope it continues many more years, but just in case.....RAW lifts

I'm not on this misc much & not on the reg Misc at all, so might not know some of the historical background here, but if there's legit concern the forums are at risk of disappearing, a tech/biz saavy person or group of folks on here should just contact bb.com and let them know of an interest to take it off of their hands should that day come.
They'd probably let it go for free or minimum cost if the company is going under, especially if it's a money pit for them. Probably wouldn't cost much to keep the forums running in their current crappy form without improvements.

I get it. I was part of the RunnersWorld forums for 20+ years. It was almost family-ish. Even met a few people in real life.
Then they did away with the forums with only a couple days warning. Those who didn't check those days missed their chance to say goodbye.
The forumites migrated a couple different places, but it wasn't the same. Can't get mad at RW for stopping a free service that had costs while they were in financial trouble.
Could happen here. I never got too deep here, but I understand how the thought of losing it may be melancholy for the long-timers.
I do appreciate y'all and enjoy checking in quite frequently.
If it ends, as Adam said to Eve: "while it lasted, it was nice".Last edited by Gabbar99; 11-17-2022 at 12:51 PM.

These types of boards for working out are all fading away.
The hieght of these forums was a 10 year period around 2005.
I remember a crap load of them back then, all gone now except “the grip board”.
Yes, goodbye ID.
Pockets most likely posts here because the cycle forums are gone too.
Everything is SM now for posting the training info. FB Twitter etc.

Well, absolutely nothing. But today I got an email that they won't sell to me even if I wasn't a cheap b4stard. Doesn't sound so good, they are *reducing* their sales area? Not the sign of a healthy growing retailer
"Our team has been working behind the scenes to improve our services to better support our customers. Regretfully we will be ceasing shipping to your area for the time being"

I was a little early on the creation of this thread. But came back to say it one more time.
Site was down for a while but we were out of town and didnt notice. Did not realize it went dead for so long. I really have enjoyed many of the interactions on this site. TONS of good people. Hope really it stays around in one form or another.
I am picking a good time to 'fall off the wagon'. Life has really changed direction for me. Last 2 months barely making in the gym. Missing full weeks at a time...etc. Since my comeback 14 years ago, I never missed workouts (unplanned). At some point, I need to find a balance and a place for the gym in my life, but focusing right now on my family and most specifically my son's racing. I am a person who throws myself into things pretty hard, and this will be no different. Really quickly you realize the limitations of budgets though. First time in many many years that I feel that pinch pretty hard. But for your kids you will do anything.
Hope all you out there are good. And definitely owe this place a huge thank you for giving me something to focus on during one the hardest parts of my life. Just not sure I need that so much these days. But now just need to make space for being fit and healthy. Not sure what that will eventually look like for me. Hope all you out there find yours as well!RAW lifts

Ha! Serious answer, I am very lucky with both kids. Daughter got a 3.85 her first year and got accepted as after freshman year (which is very unusual) into the schools nursing program. It is one of the highest rated and most competitive in the state. But where she made me very proud and amazed at the same time, she realized that quite a bit of the 4-year school was just putting her through useless, and overly stressful bs. They make their program unnecessarily hard just to say it is hard. So she researched and found a health science college which just happens to be about 20 min from us. She turned down the acceptance into the school she was attending and enrolled in the local program.
The program she is now in is part of one of the very large hospital systems here. It is a fully accredited 4 year school but it is geared towards people specifically seeking that field of study. There are many people in it that are adults looking for career change etc.
So she gave up the 4 year college life. Parties at the beach and her own apartment with friends, to live home and get a much better (real education). She was required to get her CNA before being accepted into their nursing program. And besides being full time now, she picks up shift work at care facilities, and er's. Very hard work, but generally she gets 20-22/hour and she enjoys the experiences. In those things she is doing 'bottom of the barrel' type work but she loves it and has found her calling.
Very driven kid and much more mature than I ever was at that age. Serious boyfriend who is an engineering student. They have been together just over a year now. Great kid. REALLY great kid. Comes from a very loving family and both families put similar importance on what is important. But happy to see she found someone who came from a family who really put 100% into their kids as well. Very traditional southern background. Yes sir, yes mam. Opens doors for every woman. And it is not an act at all.
I dont think as a parent I could want anything more for my kids to live a happy and fulfilled life and be good people. It is not long into parenthood that you realize how little you truly 'control'. Lots of hope and prayers, but very little you can do in many ways. I thank my wife for creating an environment like no other. She is the one who has the magic energy in our home. Really dont know how I was so lucky to marry my wife. She is the reason for anything and everything good in my life.RAW lifts
