Good to hear, keep that momentum going!

Have you ever been in treatment, whether that be inpatient or outpatient? Something like outpatient can be helpful because it can give you some coping skills to help with recovery and also look at some of the reasons why you drive. Do you have any supportive friends and/or family that could help you with sobriety?

Definitely worth checking out a few AA meetings and seeing what you think!

There are tons of different meetings and many of them are open, which means you can just show up and attend. There are also a lot of different online meetings too, which might be helpful for getting a taste of what they are like. You can google to find meetings in person and also online. Here's a good start
My mom and my girlfriend have been pretty helpful when I have been telling them that I want to get sober. It's just hard because I function well during the week I just run into issues on the weekends where I get too drunk and act like a complete a-hole. I feel like by the time the weekend rolls around again I forget why I want to be sober and I just want to have a night out. Thank you and BlackJack for the help I am going to check it out.

Hell yeah, 5 years of sobriety is amazing! Welcome to the thread.

I hope everyone has been doing well! I have been doing pretty well and recovery is still going strong. I'm excited to be hitting the two year mark in two months!

Thanks! It's nice to be getting past the PAWS; I have been able to enjoy the simple things in life again and get excited with stuff like getting cheap high protein yogurt. I know that sounds silly, but during my addiction, the only thing that brought me "joy" and excitement was drinking and using. I did a review video on the new Yoplait protein yogurts that I was excited about and it was a lot of fun lol.

Can anyone else relate to starting to enjoy and be excited by the smaller things in life again? What sort of things have you all been able to enjoy again (or for the first time)?

What's up my sober brethren? How has everyone been doing? Any wins and/or losses that you'd like to share??

I've been doing good for the most part. I had a bit of a bad experience at the grocery store earlier today. I moved some stuff I bought at Walmart earlier from my gym bag to my backpack while standing in line at self checkout in Safeway. I moved the stuff to my backpack so I could put the pizzas that I was gonna buy in the gym bag and they can lay flat, so they don't get messed up on the walk home. Well apparently, a few "concerned" customers had told the worker at the self checkout that I was stealing cough medicine. Some of the stuff I bought at Walmart was TheraFlu because it was on clearance and I got good cash back. I offered to and then proceeded to show her my backpack with the stuff that had those yellow Walmart clearance tags on them, she didn't even need to then look at my receipt.

It wasn't until a bit later while walking to the bus where I felt really hurt and sad. I feel like I've been getting sick, so I'm a bit extra sensitive and also hadn't eaten in hours, so that didn't help. I think it was the double whammy of 1) being falsely accused of stealing and 2) stealing cold medicine (which I'm sure they extrapolated it was so I could abuse it/get high from it). I feel better now after talking about it in a video, taking a hot shower, and eating a whole California Pizza Kitchen pizza lol.

Can anyone relate to a similiar situation? Or have you had any unique challenges to your recovery lately?

Hey what's up broskis? I hope that everyone's recovery has been going strong and you are receiving blessings and good fortune! Does anyone have any victories or challenges that they would like to share? Is there any support that this thread of people can provide?

This sickness that I have has still been lingering which is super ****ing annoying because it's been two weeks now. At least I'm not sick sick, but my lungs are still gunked up and I am fatigued. I didn't go to the gym Thursday or today because of that and also because my right arm, inner elbow, is hurting when I lift. I think it's some of my tendons. Tomorrow is a leg day, so I will 99% likely be doing that.

I'm pretty stoked about today, I got some hella good deals at Walmart today. They had Colgate and Crest toothpaste on clearance for a $1 each and there is cash back offers on a few of the apps I use. On Ibotta, I got $8 for buying two of each and then I'll get another $3 from another app and $2.50 from Inbox dollars. It's not like it is a ton of money, but certainly helpful. Also, they had 4pk of this vanilla latter stuff on clearance for $2.47 (normally it's like $9). On Ibotta, it was $2.50 cash back for a limit of 5, so of course I got 5 lol.

Everything is going pretty well, as far as drugs and alcohol goes. I however had a small like porn relapse last night. The last month I decided to go back to AA instead of NA. Started read twelve steps and twelve traditions. Kinda wish I started reading that earlier on in my recovery. Hoping to finally work the steps with a sponsor but still looking for one. As an alcoholic I have trust issues and of course issues with relationships, but I suppose that’s why I should work the steps.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

Haven't posted on the MISC since before it was deleted.

However, as someone who is now 5 years sober, if anyone ever wants a chat, I am here. I sit on both sides of it, as someone with a previous problem and also having a partner who suffers I know what it is like.

One of the hardest thing about being sober for me is not knowing how to go out and socialize. My old self would go out to a bar have a few drinks and meet new people. I have a desire to go out and be social not sure how/where to do that where it doesn’t involve drinking.

For guys thinking about AA. Buddy showed me you can go to online zoom aa meetings, your mic and camera don't need to be on. Often 100 people in the meetings. Online meets available every hour of the day. Hearing others stories seems to help me at least

    https://aa-intergroup.org/meetings/

4 days sober myself, decided gotta stop. The hangovers, weight gain and overall poor decisions are bad ill give you that, but the next day anxiety have evolved into panic attacks and overall anxiety the whole day, cant do it anymore

Doesn't feel great to realize you've wasted the last 7-8 years drinking all the time, doing nothing productive, while your close friends have started families.

Glad to hear that you have been staying sober! That sucks about the ********, but maybe it might be better to save it for days you need it and then have off days to keep your tolerance low.

Glad to hear everything is doing well! I appreciate you sharing your relapse with porn. I hope that you weren't hard on yourself and were able to get back on track! I'm glad to hear that you're reading and working on the steps, I know that that is helpful for many.

Congrats on 5 years sober and thanks for the support!

Yeah, it can definitely be hard to socialize when we have spent a lot of our time being social while under the influence. It also doesn't help that alcohol is pretty prevalent in social settings!

Nice work on the 4 days sober! Thanks for sharing about the online AA resource. I've been to some people and the convenience and extra anonymity with not needing to be seen or heard is super nice!

I hope that everyone else has still been doing well. I can't believe how fast time has been flying by. It's crazy that we are almost a full week through March! I've been keeping pretty busy with doing the recovery coaching job as well as being consistent with going to the gym. I've also been doing more online side hustle stuff, like surveys, to supplement my income. I'm very thankful that I am able to get by without having to work a whole bunch. The freedom and flexibility is greatly appreciated and I understand that not everyone has the opportunity. I need to start getting back in Youtube vids, it's been a while lol.

slipped up over the weekend. Has about 12 days in a row sober which was nice. Ended up having a few beers on Thursday at a fire pit. Even bought some n/a beers but for some reason couldn't mentally do it. Here's to day 1 again... really gotta master the art of just drinking soda or seltzer at social events. The idea of straight up not going out an socializing with friends cuz of the booze is a scary thought

I have been lately for some reason lol. I know that some people in recovery freak out about having a using dream, but they don't bother me.

Thank you for sharing about your recent lapse! I think that being open and honest about lapse/relapses happening is a huge part of successful recovery. Don't beat yourself up about it. Pick yourself up, identify what happened to lead to the lapse, and then use that knowledge to better your recovery plan. Which, it sounds like you are doing a good job of already! I believe it is possible to go to events with alcohol involved and stay sober. However, I also encourage people to try and make friends who are also in recovery or just don't drink/use.

Well brahs it's almost been a year since I posted this, also been a year since I actually spent time on the misc.
I can happily say that my drinking has been reduced drastically over the last 5 months. Last summer I decided to take a few steps back regarding my position at work. No more responsibilities, can finally REST when I'm at home rather than still being busy for work. Note that I had been in this position for well over 8 years. I finally found the time to reflect, even though it took me a few months to get back on my feet. I really had to find myself again, reinvent myself if you will.

To be honest, I still drink, but I have more sober days than drinking days because I managed to create the willpower to not drink. I'm still recovering, but the NEED to drink every day is not as bad as it used to be. After 5 months I can safely say that I am now more in control than I was for years before. There is still hope.

I'm glad to hear that you have been able to successfully cut down on your drinking. Recovery can be very different from person to person; I believe that harm reduction can still be considered recovery. Although for a lot of people, myself included, total abstinence is the most helpful.

I hope all of you recovery brahs have been doing well! Do you have any fun plans for this weekend?

Are you interested in taking suggestions from those who have worked a program of sobriety?

We try this walk one step at a time, but it’s important to know what step you are on.

    Let’s start with step one.

Do you acknowledge you are powerless over your addiction or do you think you can still control it with controlled use?

Do you believe it is possible for you to be restored?
Jesus Christ is Lord whether you accept Him or not.

Got good support from friends. I do acknowledge that when I have 1 I am going to keep doing drinking for the most part, abstinence is my only path

It can be nice having support from people who can relate and understand what it’s like to be an alcoholic.

Iv always been interested in AA if that's what you're talking about. Sometimes I go on the online AA meetings at night, which is helpful and less intimidating than going in person. All thought im not sure what the basis of the program is. I usually go to the meetings to hear peoples stories .Ik they reference the "big book"
