I wasn't being passive aggressive.
In case you don't know about Eod, he has a really, really negative view on the world. I was encouraging him to challenge his view on things.
I don't go around debating everyone I meet IRL... This is the an internet forum, not real life. I'm not trying to make friends here, tbh (though there are people I like on this forum).

I say the 70's and 80's because it was the Golden Age of Metal music and bodybuilding, but in general life after the 2000's has been pretty bland and uneventful. Oversaturated pop/rap garbage, constant mass casualty events, and censorship everywhere. Really what is there for me to enjoy and look back fondly on when I'm old?
No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.

Disagree, all the *******s here are either middle class or rich in the '90s whereas I grew up poor. When you are poor, your suburb does not have dialup or its too expensive. Cable is too expensive. Clothes were very expensive as China wasnt making it yet, so $10,000 for jacket. Toys were like Apple iPhone the $100b billion companies because they were selling for $60 each and only middle class and rich kids would buy it every week. And these same kids even got allowances.
Now in late 2000s, like 2019 when access to information is free, access to internet is very cheap almost free, laptops are very cheap to almost free, HD TVs with home theatres are very cheap to almost free. Now that it is more even between middle class and the poor, the middle class *******s claim boredom and claim they have no identity because all the poor people have access to the same status type material.
So go fuk yourselves, middle class and rich people used the things aforementioned as status symbols and since they are no longer status symbol they feel lost in 2019, so go fuk yourself

This guy hit the nail on the head - especially when it came to options on how to spend your leisure time. I remember getting into my older brother's pontiac (lol) back in 1996 and remarking about how overkill it is to have 6 radio station presets in your car. Everyone will only have 2 or 3 at most preferred stations, after all. And that was it - unless you wanted to drop $17 on a cd.
TV was the other thing. Growing up in the 90s, I had 7 channels to choose from. Nothing on that I was interested in? Time to bust out the SNES or read a comic book.
Stuff like spotify, satellite radio, netflix, etc almost seems like step back. Like there's this thing called "the choice paradox", where the more options you're presented with, the more dissatisfied you are with your selection. So many freaking options these days.
I remember actually having to plan my route home on certain days so I could catch the Disney Afternoon shows (ie Ducktales, Rescue Rangers, etc). Now we're two months away from virtually every parent in the USA having a Disney+ subscription.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Honestly those often totally kill the nostalgia for me and end up reminding me about a lot of stuff totally forgot I hated. The things I like, I generally rememeber.
e.g. 1998 vid
-Cher lol at that old hags come back, all the comedy shows made fun of her
-Catdog, uughhh that cartoon was unwatchable and disgusting to me
-same for that
-lots of generic pop music I forgot about
-Is that Ryan Reynolds looking like a Xena character?
-some amazing PC games, but most I never saw
-all those generic romantic comedies
-what appears to be some Halloween movie, despite the much better original having been filmed 20 years earlier
-how is Elmo being introduced to Sesame Street positive?
Maybe I was a little too young for some of the stuff at age 10 and am thinking more about toys, but a lot of the things don't really look that awesome to me.

It was a better way to live. Though we had internet access it didn't dominate nearly every facet of our existence.
No work emails at home; heck, work stress was far lower. Education was more focused. It just worked better all around.
Playing street hockey in my neighborhood and having cars stop for end of play was GOAT.
But who was fabric of society?

These day everyone is narc. You can't do anything no within social norms without ending up on the internet.
Ooo, you want to let loose and dance like a crazy person; better not or you'll end up on YouTube.
Want to pass out with your shoes on? Nope better not, or else you'll end up on Snapchat.
I really do envy those who were teens in the 90's.

I think that's actually a really good point, I can see everyone become increasingly more self conscious now because of social media.
I actually have personal experience of that... I was sat reading a graphic novel at age 30 in public, and somebody literally took a picture of me on their phone. (It didn't fully register what had happened until a little while afterwards). If You Don't Like To Talk About Your Feelings, This Might Help...

Life in the hood was not all good in the 90s. I grew up in the hood in the 90s and all I remember is alot of drive-by shootings, gang violence and police shootings and this wasn't even in Compton.
Crime was high in the 90s and late 80's. Social media was the graffiti on the neighborhood walls and there were no cell phone cameras so alot of crimes were never solved.
HBO had a special called Bangin in Little Rock but it could have been called Bangin in any ghetto USA.
That was no era to be raised in, alot of people I knew in my youth are still doing time or have passed away from that madness.
Im happy my kids didnt have to deal with any of that.~Cobra Kai Crew~

interdasting perspective. i just read an article on why blockbuster died
the very last points were good. for brevity's sake, i will try to keep it more concise.
essentially, the way the stores were set up - everything out in the open and all set in different areas - it was more likely that you'd run into something new and "explore" your boundaries. whereas nowadays they have algorithms, and supposedly they link you to new content. however, the algorithim is usually based on past behavior, so it would seem that you would just get things "similar" to what you just watched. instead of completely new
and then because of the set up once again, you were more likely to run into somebody and shoot the chit about movies, perhaps linking you to the aforementioned "exploration". talk to this guy here - he says watch this, this guy there - says watch that, etc.
something you dont get nowadays. or at least most of the time like you would back then

i was a child back then and yes i miss it more and more the older i get, im starting to realise that childhood is the peak of life and no money or whatever can make up for it
i rather be a kid with the entire future ahead of me and a naive enthusiastic outlook on the world then being a 35 year old stressed out billionaire who lived long enough to adapt a cynical outlook on the world
oh and the 90s was such a non-racist and accepting decade too, Ice MC makes you get the message

[QUOTE=AlpineX;1586974051]There was awesome video game technology like the PlayStation or the Nintendo 64. Had Computers and going on the internet was awesome but there was no disgusting social media only chat rooms and message boards.
Computer games were also awesome in the 90's. We had cell phones so we could always call a friend but no smart phones so we weren't glued to them 24/7.
If you wanted a movie you had to go out and physically rent one, if you wanted music you had to go to a record store and browse the CD's.
If you wanted to hook up with a girl you had to physically talk to one or meet them at the club or a bar.
Televison was awesome for adult or kids with shows like seinfeld, X-Files then you had Nickelodeon at it's peak.
You had over the top testosterone action movies that were not worried about being PC.
The economy was great and gas was cheap. I could get a half a tank for $5.
Music was fuking amazing. Totaly agree, great tymes and feels/memories here OP Fam
