Who is following this guy? At like 1.5 million, 19 shows, a professional sports gambler from Las Vegas. I saw James Holzhauer's 1st appearance on the show by accident - I don't normally watch the show, but now the whole family is hooked, this guy is something else.

Imagine if your dream was to get on Jeopardy - you passed the tests, get selected, take time off from work, tell all your friends about this amazing once-in-lifetime opportunity, travel across the country aaaaaand you’re up against this guy.

Well, unlike the rest of these yahoos, I watch Jeopardy and like. It . It’s on 1/2 hour after I get home from work, so that gives me just enough time to make the wife and I dinner, and then sit down to watch it and relax for a half hour before starting the fun half of the day. . My SO and I know an equal amount of useless crap, so it’s just fun taking turns answering, or trying to be the first to answer (although we have to wait until the answer is read completely...which is annoying since I often know about half way through).
So, yeah, I’m following James. I think he MUST have an eidetic memory...because he just knows too much about too much. It’s fun having someone to root for, and it’s fun having someone who isn’t afraid to take big risks. I do fear it might “ruin” Jeopardy for a while, because small wins and pussyfooting when it comes to wagers are going to be much less exciting (this week James gets a break for Teachers Week...so we shall see).
I know it’s petty, but I’m one of those people who get annoyed when people “hop on the bandwagon” for anything that becomes suddenly popular. I mean I was a Romero zombie fan for decades before Walking dead...and all of a sudden EVERYONE who doesn’t know **** about the genre is a fan. I read fantasy and sci fi my whole life when it was something only “nerds” did...then along comes Game of Thrones (not the books, which I was reading, but the TV show), and suddenly EVERYONE is a fan of a genre they have paid no dues in...ha ha, so even though Jeopardy has pretty widespread popularity, it’s kinda annoying that people who never watched the show (no offense Bando) are suddenly all over the place talking about it like they have been watching forever.

In an interview he said that most contestants know 80% of the answers, and when he gives you a statistic you probably want to believe it. That said, the other other day there was a category "American Gods" that he got every answer for, no one else even buzzed in, I have never heard of a single name he said and I have a chitload of American Higher Ed under my belt.
I watch, just not as part of a regular routine, as I said I was tuned in for the 1st show he was on, thought he was kind of an asshat on that 1st one TBH. Now my whole family is together on the couch at 7:30 just like when my Son's SS teacher was on for like 9 days straight.
It's weird how everyone is talking about this guy, on ESPN radio they were calling him a "grinning freak" and talking about how a baseball team should hire him as he's a probability's expert and so on.
He's actually off for 2 weeks, betcha he's in the library 12 hours a day for those 2 weeks.Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

In the children’s section, he said...makes sense, more compact info.
I thought he was a jerk the first show too, but he grows on you, and I’m rooting for him...because I’ve always shouted “do it” when someone gets a daily double, and they never do.
He only has 2 records (most money, and most episodes) left to break...but I’m guessing Alex will be glad when he’s gone, because James cuts him off whenever he talks. Ha ha. That’s gotta be annoying.

I want to say that tournament is a repeat? I tuned in to see if James was on the other day, and the teachers were on and I think they just put that in for the week. Maybe James needs a vacation? lol For real. It's become a job for him, now.
Also, Alex Trebek is undergoing treatment , so maybe that too had something to do with it.

Okay, I didn't know that. I saw them on the other day like I said, and couldn't watch but a few minutes. I thought, where's James???
Yea, he might have ruined that show, now. It just seems odd though, when you see the huge disparity with his score compared to everyone else. It almost looks like unfair match ups. Not sure what's involved to get a place on that show.

My spidey sense and foggy memory makes me think you're a teacher.
As my son is about to graduate and go on to college, thank you. I can't believe all the rules, regs, standards, quotas, etc in tertiary education these days. I feel like it's supposed to be an art, kids are supposed to go home and say mr/ms is my favorite teacher! right up to 12th grade. Cool teachers make for cool schooldays.Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

You mean trying to teach kids who don’t want to learn and have no respect? Trying to read homework without cringing in an age were they no longer know spelling and grammar? Average pay that doesn’t take into account hours of work off the clock? Summers where you have to get a second job to make ends meet while making study plans and taking night classes?
Where do I sign up?

In a manner of speaking. I’m s school administrator until the end of this year. Returning to school counseling (my true passion) next year in an elementary k-6 building of about 550 students.
I don’t really take any of the teacher hits personally. It is what it is. Most teachers could write a book about their experiences. It would read as fiction to those who pursue less involved and more predictable jobs.If you poke a bear in the eye, expect a bear like response.

I actually do have two jobs. After the first 11 hours of my day yesterday, we had our last junior high dance last night. The last student was picked up 92 minutes after the dance was over. I wait for every last student to be picked up before I leave.
Then I changed clothes and went to my other job. 18 hour day yesterday.
Oh, by the way, totally my choice. My wants outweigh my intelligence and ability to be a jeopardy champ, so I just work a little harder to have what what I want.
But, the school job for me is 11 hours a day if excitement I wouldn't trade for anything.
Again, all my choice. Not all teachers put in the same level of work. I’m not going to say they do. The kids know which ones do.If you poke a bear in the eye, expect a bear like response.
