Current WoW is just as big of a grind, except instead of character levels you grind artifact levels.

Disagree, I think people actually overestimate the grind based on memory of when they were new and everyone was bad at WoW. At this point, Vanilla has been entirely figured out. Now you have the benefits of perfect leveling builds, maximally efficient quest guides to get to 1-60, spreadsheets of best gear, etc.

The mount is a bit annoying to get if you are a class that can't farm effectively but it's entirely optional. Consider that in Legion you actually need to constantly grind infinite AP to maintain raid spots in any decent guild. What do you have to grind in Vanilla after you've obtained close to pre-raid bis? Not much, which is why there is so much raidlogging on private servers.

thats what made it fun imo. the game is and has always been grindy. the difference is the grind in classic wow actually felt rewarding.

The grind is what will make it have a chance of lasting.

If they made it easy to hit 60, people would have no sense of accomplishment and get bored of end game within a month.

i think they should do what old school runescape did. release it as it was (well fixed at least) then for updates let the community vote on things to be added or not added and 75% of votes have to be yes for it to pass.

for example: have a vote for dual spec to be added, if it gets over 75% approval then they add it, even though it wasn't in vanilla.


another thing i'm curious about is how long it'll take people to get a chit load of gold with everyone starting out at 0, should be interesting to see how trading and chit will be at first.

2 major things i'm not looking forward to: no mount til 40; that's gonna be brutal. and the other thing is trying to get money for epic riding. costed a fking arm and a leg back in the day when wow was first released because gold was so hard to make.


also hope they get rid of weapon skills, that was pointless and annoying

The only reason you wouldn't play vanilla wow even if played is because you are one of the absolute trash cry baby players that unless they get their free loot from lfr and a few normals doesn't ever make it to the actual hard parts of the game. Trash players will never play wow original wow because of the fact it actually took skill to get to end game content back then.

i'm 98th percentile on krosus mythic and its 1/100ths the skill it took to get GM.

Go play on a Vanilla private server, people are min/maxing the **** out of it. Raids are ridiculously easy with everyone running optimal talents, rotations and compositions. T1 and T2? Trash for most classes, only good for showing off in cities.



They'll ship the game more or less as it was, and a most people will be disappointed to discover that it's got a ****load of issues by today's standards. Want to play a shadow priest, ret pally, balance druid or a bunch of other specs? Too bad, you'll have a pretty hard time finding a raiding guild. Got a shiny T2 item that looks awesome? Sucks for you, that blue lvl 52 item has better stats.

All the people from Nost, Kronos, Elysium, and the various servers before them. People are really fuking good at Vanilla at this point. Even if you haven't played it since launch, if you are a heroic raider+ in Legion, stuff will be pretty simple. Vanilla will still be fun but it's not going to be grueling like it used to be unless you have zero desire to make use of resources now at your disposal.

Gold, there were only a handful of decent spots per server, such as elementals, where you can farm gold and mats. You need mats for potions/buffs, mage food using expensive mats, repair bots using expensive mats, repair costs using significant amounts of gold, mats to craft gear for rare schematics that drop, etc. Gold was SIGNIFICANTLY harder to come by, and having an epic mount was a big deal.

Lots of folks who don't remember, or were never actually there for end-game content, are going to have a rude awakening.

I didn't find it bad on Elysium (higher pop than vanilla 'high' pop servers) and that was with the elemental spots being on 24 hour lockdown by Chinese and devilsaur market cornered by Un'goro mafia. A good deal of the great spots are actually instanced and thus freed up from competition (ex: DM East 2 man drop runs, Mara for hunters, BRD/DM AoE farming for mages, coordinated AoE strat live runs for orbs/cloth/greens/greys, etc.). I do agree about flasks and mount being annoying. However, I don't think it will shock Legion players because they are well acquainted with boring and necessary AP grinds -- they aren't pampered WoD babies anymore.

Edit: obviously this presupposes that Blizz makes Vanilla truly like it was at launch

Didn't really mind the grinding, even when I played briefly on a private vanilla server. Getting to level 60 was one of things I enjoyed the most about vanilla WoW. Never gave a chit about raiding. What I really couldn't stand time traveling. Instead of actually playing the game, I'm hitting the num lock button and waiting to slowly get to my destination. Not like I can just go away and come back either, since that'll mean that I'll go off course, run into mobs, and get killed.

Uhh, so hybrids with only one viable spec, no summons, grinding out the last 5 or so levels because lack of content, 2 drops per 40 man raid bosses etc.? Now don't get me wrong, I played through vanilla until end of LK (high point of WoW for me) so I also get the nostalgia vibes (questlines, lore, great community), but I don't think I could return to vanilla.

Anyways, still a great decision from Blizz, so hope ppl will enjoy it.

i think this is the part blizz wow devs will be working on tuning in, to give a more advanced modernized mechanical yet vanilla experience. tough cookie to bake but i trust in them. Will continue playing on lights hop, my guild finnaly getting to nef lol.

I'm playing on eq Agnarr TLP. Took like 14+ hours to get from 57-60 with exp boost pots with a solid xp group. And that's mob grinding, quest exp isn't really a thing in EQ.

Almost looking forward to the vanilla wow grind.

Read my post above. Blizz themselves said the opposite. They hired an entirely different team to work on WoW classic than normal WoW, and aim to make it as authentic as possible by keeping current mechanics like matchmaking, cross-realms, server sharding, etc. out of it.

Towellie also said less than a week ago that he knew there was no way legacy servers were getting announced at Blizzcon so I'd take his word with a grain of salt.

People tend to over look it because it was the beginning of a legacy but vanilla had lots of problems. I don't think they have more or less as of today, just today the problems are different. Vanilla was hard because of diffrent reasons, but its not because of strat issues. It's more of how the player would hand there class.

What I think blizz will do.

-Update Graphics
-Update class stats to where more classes/specs (Like he stated above ret pally, shadow priest, bal druid..etc) will be viable
-Bosses will have more strats
-Either right off the bat or later on mythic will be introduced.
-Once vanilla has its run, they'll release TBC servers.

I'm not sure they will update graphics. Maybe water and weather effects and stuff like that.

I do think they will update quest helper, class balance, and a bunch of small things like auto-loot. Not to mention the resolution for much larger modern monitors.

I never liked vanilla though or TBC. Hopefully they eventually get around to Wrath. I would only want to play vanilla if it was basically vanilla with the wrath client.
