I sometimes wonder why atheists try so hard to disprove religion, maybe they're subconsciously trying to prove to themselves that God doesn't exist?

Atheists will never win an argument trying to disprove something that can never be disproved for certain (God). Especially when the arguments they use are continuously adapting and changing.. Everything they so strongly believe in today i.e. the big bang theory, will most likely be proven wrong in the future when a whole new theory is developed.

Not too many years ago (in the grand scheme of things), everyone blindly believed that the earth was flat. That theory was proved wrong..

OP, when it comes to atheists and discussing this with them, I find it is best to agree to disagree. That's the thing with faith, be it in God or in your own mind, it is very difficult to change someone's mind.

Maybe you should also check on the statistics and see whether it is the atheist or religious people number decreasing. The only thing that will be meaningless in the future is religion.
