It's way more comfortable to deadlift without a tshirt pinching and binding.

with deadlift suits, the straps will dig into a t-shirt, but if you take the t-shirt off, they'll slide out a little and allow you to lockout without your shoulders tearing off.Originally Posted by simp3204

Also in meets by the time you get to deadlifts your tshirt is likely drenched in sweat

guess it keeps them from pulling up the sleeves LOL. I always pull my sleeves up cause they tug on my arms. Im too fat to be shirtless in my gym full of girls

Wish I knew about the t shirt thing at my last meet. Sometime during the second attempts I noticed half the guys went shirtless and I was confused. Will not make this mistake twice.

Sometimes T-shirts can obscure the the vision when it comes to showing the judges that you have completely locked your shoulders back during a deadlift. Hence by taking the T-shirt off, the judge can clearly determine whether or not you have locked out the lift completely.
