    Biking/Cycling for fat loss

Hi, I was just wondering if biking/cycling is a good cardio for fat loss. I actually do Hiit 1-2x per week and would want to add biking/cycling 1-2x per week as well. I plan on biking for 30mins for an hour, would this lead to muscle loss? When i bike i dont really sweat that much and my heart rate isnt really high so i was thinking i could do longer than 20mins. Which is better to use? Road or mountain bike?
Any feedback on those who do cycling there?

    Thanks!

Do sprints to get anything out of it, cycling is not load bearing so you have to push hard to get a result

Nonsense dude. There is a reason why marathon runners are so freaking lean. They don't lift weights, they don't do HIIT, none of that. Yet they don't have a single ounce of fat on their body. And hour of LIT will most certainly take off fat.

Cycling is an excellent way to burn fat, but not if you're only going to do it for 30 minutes at a leisurely pace. If you're just going for 30-60 minutes, then you have to sweat. You need to feel the burn in your quads. I run and cycle for my cardio, usually cycling once a week for about 3 hours or so.

the question is too simplistic...obviously cycling will lead to greater calorie expenditure...how you combine this with calorie intake, in what deficit or surplus, along with your resistance training program will determine your body composition. Cycling is just cardio - just view it that way - and do some basic reading on nutrition, calories, and resistance training. The stickies in the forums on this website are a good place to start.

So what you are saying is people can't get lean by lifting weights?

Can you share your experience with us on getting lean?

Cycling is a great for cardio, get lean as it helps you get in a bigger caloric deficit.

I used to cycle 3-4 hours at a time every other day, but now have all but stopped. Two reasons; I started strength training and it really messed up my recovery. Second is time. I can no longer ride that long several days a week. Riding 1-2 hours @ around 16mph felt as leisurely for me as sitting on a couch.

When did I say that dude? Or even imply it?

I've been from 120Kg's to 93Kg's. But unfortunately, life got a little crazy and ended up eating about $300 per month on fast food. It's addictive you see. So yeah, I know how to lose weight. But that isn't what this thread is about.
