I haven't seen any other 3.6 at all in my city. Is it quite uncommon?

I haven't had any problems with my car yet but is it really as expensive to maintain VW as people say? I knew it would be more expensive than my last car when I bought it but wasn't sure exactly how expensive.

There is a depreciation to the mass public buyers, but those in the euro scene would appreciate and pay top dollar for it if and when someone did decide to resale it.

Case in point.

I had bought a 2001 Audi A4 Avant. It was a 1.8T with sport package and manual, had only 100k on it and was immaculate and included all paperwork and history back to 2002. I paid 3000.00 in December for it. Because it was so clean and was a rare sight being 100% stock other then a second set of wheels I had tossed on I sold it for almost 5k. In a market out here that had plenty of A4's.

Its all about photos and that supply and demand. I always will personally pay more for a stock car then some poorly modded car.


With the Phaeton you have that exclusivity and rare sightings that you just don't get. When I had watched the Top Gear episode about it the amount of engineering that went into it is way more then just some rebadged A8.


I could never do a twin turbo V8 in a car that big. Maybe a 5.2 V10, but thats still pushing it. I would have to get a W12. Just that size of engine in a big body euro would be such win. I was debating swapping in a 4.2 into my current C5 allroad and then give it the twin snail treatment. But I want to now see how big of a turbo can go into our new allroa we just got.

The market around here for A4's (especially B5, and even more especially Avants) is weird. One owner cars that some guy bought for their daughter that have been dealership maintained all their life will be listed for $2k or less. A prefacelift Avant that has coilovers and basic stage 1 gear will be listed for $6k. It blows my mind. I got my prefacelift Avant for $1700 with a handful of issues and should hold on to it because it's mechanically sound, but I'm very tempted to slap some coilovers on it for $500 and list for $3k to see what happens.

Never put chitty oil in, run G12 or G13 coolant as specified, keep up with your timing belt. And you will be good to go.

Not really. But it is a step up from the average. The only true rare Passat was the 275 hp 4.0 W8 introduced between 2001 and 2004. Only seen two of those in my city ever. It was replaced with the chassis redesign to a transverse mount slightly more powerful VR6 in your car.

Yes, but that's mainly due to labor cost than anything else. VW may be the cheapest of the bunch, but those German car mechanics don't come cheap.

perhaps they'd be able to put the 2.0 TDI in the Tig? maybe they figure it just isnt worth producing.

+1 it is sort of like the audi C5 platform. The 2.8 and 2.7 just dont compare to the allroad and the 4.2's. Even if the fenders were an inch and a half wider they would be perfect.

That is why I am still begging Audi to bring me a TDI Allroad.

My C5 allroad is stage II+ with a perfect running engine and trans. But I would sell both off to get a 2.5 TDI and enjoy finally having all my cars in the garage running diesel.

We did look at a TDI A3 but they are just to small. I cant even fit 2 deployment boxes in the trunk.

I own 3 audi's *******. 2 allroads and a B7 RS4 But the W12 Phaeton is a far better made piece of machinery. Maybe educate yourself on the build quality and technology that went into it before commenting.

I own an Audi too brah...so what? Point is you made it seem like that car is more aesthetic than an Audi when its really not.......I never said the build quality was bad..
