And totally did not expect this to happen (read below)
First, a short background. So I work in NY for a fortune 200 financial firm and today is my last day since I am relocating to Florida due to a pressing family issue and in the hopes of living a better life (better cost/quality of living albeit less pay). My company has an internal ********-like site where people can generally post stuff but never do out of fear of saying something stupid or pissing off someone high up. Usually only senior officers post and they post general topics about the business and industry. Since it's my last day, I decided to check the site and notice that the Chief Executive Officer (real life CEO 10k/day) made a post about my company's general strategic plan and where we are headed as a firm. At the end of the post, he solicited suggestions for any innovative low to medium risk strategic iniatives ..............so I made a suggestion (a pretty lengthy one at that).
I thought nothing of it and expected it to be ignored like everyone else on that site.
But one hour later, it happened.
I got a call from the Chief Financial Officer saying that he said he read and liked my post very much and that my suggestion was actually in line with something suggested recently by an external "business positioning" consultant (wtf is that?). He wants me to join him for lunch to discuss my ideas further as well as to discuss my "future with the firm". My exit interview is in an hour lol.
This was the last thing in the world I ever expected to happen. I have to move, I already sold the house, I already bought the house in FL, I already moved everything out, I even already accepted the job offer down there.
What in the flying **** do I do misc?
cliffs:
- My last day at work
- I made a business strategy suggestion in the company's internal "********" site because who gives a ****
- CFO actually loved my ideas and wants to have lunch (he has no idea im leaving)
- I'm supposed to leave for FL in an hour
- I am completely floored by this and have no clue what to do

I'd stick around a little longer OP. See where it takes you, maybe something positive could come of it? If not you could leave. You could also tell him that the work had its negatives *list several negatives* and unless what he is offering you is good (huge pay rise, promotion, etc) you will continue with your move to florida.

My only worry is that he's going to offer me something so bombastic that it'll make me want to reconsider the move. But I have to make the move for family reasons moreso than financial. He doesn't know me from a hole in the wall, what if he gets pissed off by suggesting that they accomodate my new FL situation? Last thing I want to do is burn a bridge with this guy. Thanks for the suggestion though.

no bro just leave it mayne, it seems to be you already made up your decision in your head about wanting to stay, so why even post this on the misc? to make people reinforce your decision to stay? like you said mayne you've already got a new job new house and your family wanting to move to a new state, you wanna risk all that mayne for a possible fling with this cheif guy?

GO FOR THE MEETING BRAH!!! are you srs??
EDIT: who gives a phuck if you sold your house, are you single at least? no worries brah
at least now you can talk with him like notasinglefukwasgiven cuz you got nothing to lose (already have a job/house in new location). be very honest/forward with him and find a way to ask for a better position, etc
EDIT 2: tell him how you were planning on moving because you could not afford to live comfortably in the city, etc.. tell him how you loved working for the firm (if it's true) and hopefully he will feel for you, see potential, and make a deal*take sip of water after every set crew*

Relax it's just lunch not a job offer. In b4 op expects a huge salary for a ******** post lol and gets disappointed when CFO is actually just homo for him
If you get an offer though tell your family to kiss your ass

If you already made up your mind about leaving, there is no downside to floating that suggestion out there. You can be firm in your decision to move and all that but be willing to be a little flexible with continuing to work for him. The worst that happens is he says no and you move as planned. And if you don't ask, you're potentially blowing a huge opportunity. Can't hurt. Just do it brah.
