It's actually there for the convenience of not having to do the math. The waiter/waitress doesn't put it there, the restaurant does, so no point in taking it out on them by giving them less.

A lot of waiters/ waitresses make between $25-30/ hour. It's pretty ridiculous for a job that takes zero skill/education/talent. I don't give a fuk, but no kunts, it doesn't take skill or talent to carry food to people, smile, and write down their order.
