anybody use that front squat trick where you use straps to stabilize the bar? i might try it since the last time i tried front squats, i just couldnt get it right.
there is a youtube vid if you feel the need to google it. anybody try it? would love to smash the front

I don't have the wrist flexibility to do the olympic style, so I use the bodybuilder style grip:



The key with the bodybuilder grip is to keep the elbows higher than your shoulders and your posture straight up and down (don't rock forward) otherwise you will lose the bar off your shoulders and down your arms and end up with a Zercher Squat (which isn't a bad squat move either):

Zercher squat is a painful one for me personally. I'd rather front squat all day.

You should like them - any movement that gets the weight out front will by nature force you to have a more upright spine and allows those with less than stellar flexibility to put their feet closer together to more directly work the vastus lateralis (aka - the "sweep").

Some interesting and somewhat enlightening reading over the weekend. Ever notice how people/organizations will leave another group/organization citing disagreement with a particular activity or dissatisfaction with an elitist mindset/stance of superiority? Oftentimes they'll claim they never went along with it and finally had enough. The problem is it usually never stops there.
In their attempt to distance themselves from said group/organization they, more often than not, adopt a stance of disdain for the aforementioned groups vocalizing/writing it on occasion. In doing so they often reveal a form of elitism and/or a superiority complex of their own.

Nothing new or earth shattering to be sure, but interesting to watch.

The single biggest time for calves is to stretch and pause at the bottom. Calves need a full range of motion and a good 1-2 second pause at the bottom. Reason is that the achilles tendon is a great shock absorber and is designed to return energy from a stretched position when you walk or run. To get good calf growth, you don't want your achilles tendon doing the work, so pause and let the kinetic energy de-load and then use the muscle to raise the leg. Slow contraction with a slow descent and a good pause will make a big difference.
