Got my shottie sighted in the other day. 6" groups at 75 yards isn't anything to brag about, but out of an 18 1/2" smoothbore, it'll do.

I've had 3 of them stand in front of me over the last two years. Two of them were less than 10 yards from my stand, broadside, and standing still for at least 30 seconds each. I shot none of them. Stupid regulations.

So what all first aid gear do you all carry on your hunts? I'd like to have at least some basic stuff on hand when i go.

Stick to bite down on long enough to get back to the truck/cabin/house.

Depends on your hunt. I am usually hours away from civilization/a hospital or I am miles in the woods/hills. So I definitely have a nice first aid kit. It's not too huge, but it has everythig I need. I'll take a picutre of it when I am home.

I'll trade you any one of those days temps for what I'll be doing tomorrow and Saturday.

Hunting all tomorrow and sat in Oklahoma. Sleeping out in the woods in a tent (not the nice ones I posted earlier) some little dinky tent and my 0 degree sleeping bag.

Tomorrow temps including wind will be 10 to -05 degrees and sat will be 16 to 0 throughout the day.


I'm just hoping it'll force the deer to be on their feet.

Might see a few inches of snow too

It was -17 with windchill when I moved the van into the garage this morning and I was just wearing socks, a stocking cap and my boxer shorts.

This trip will help toughen you up!

So the baby went down for a nap... I went out to go pull the minivan around real quick.

Snow drifts in my way... So I whipped it around the yard into place.

I have to admit whipping a massive ass rockford with a minivan is actually pretty fun!

Oh no... No... It was at least a full 33 seconds!


The trick to cold weather camping is to keep the head, hands and feet warm.

Hands tend to be next to the body so it's the thing to worry about the least when you crawl in. But a good hat and especially good socks is KEY.

That being said... I don't do that kind of stuff in this phase of my life... And I can honestly say I don't miss it.

I mean I miss the open road... I miss having GREAT times with strangers... I miss all the time I used to spend in the great outdoors.

Still don't miss cold weather camping!

Y'all can keep the cold weather. With my RA, I don't do cold AT ALL anymore. As soon as the cold sets in, I'm in pain 24/7. With the cold and rain here right now my knees are killing me and I'll probably start my pain meds today which is something I've been putting off till I just can't take it anymore.

Don't know if I have RA yet (but the MRI of my knee a couple years ago showed signs of it starting) but my foot is absoloutly killng me. Planar Fachiitis or some such thing. Heat makes it hurt, cold makes it hurt, everything else makes it hurt.

I've become convinced that ice must have some strange kind of radiation. Like if you're exposed to ice and ice fishing long enough it starts to mutate certain genes in your DNA so that you have a greater resistance to cold temperatures.


That being said... This is my "Saturday" and I'm down in my office with blankets over the windows and the electric fireplace roaring!
