I've been cutting on a low carb diet, which is going quote well so far (down close to 20 lbs). So, the grill has been in full force. Last weekend I threw down a turkey breast and 10 chicken breasts. I find with the duo that I need to refuel it every 2 hours or so. So, I upgraded the grill this weekend.
I pulled the ash tray out and removed the grate for the charcoal. I welded in a couple cross beams and larger basket to handle a decent load of coal. I also welded up the extra holes in the fire box and used high temp sealant to make the door and tray seal properly.
If this works out, but I need some better control on temps, I'll rig up a fan controller to use on those overnight shoulder smokes.
Good times!
I may build a baffle and insulate the whole rig at some point, but I'm going to let it roll for now and see how much of an improvement this makes first.
That's what I did this weekend.Your freedom to be you includes my freedom to be free from you. -AW

Cool. Are you guys avid hikers or climbers?
I've been doing a lot of traveling this year. Here are some pics from the last two weekends.

Texas is mostly all private land but even so yeah pretty flat around here. Out West there's some places to go just not nearby here. I almost almost made a trip out to California with a friend for a Mt Whitney climb but it never came together.
Halloween party tonight, drunk L&D nurses are always a good time. I guess fisting vaginas for a living drives them to go crazy on the weekends. To top the night off the wife ran over a rattlesnake on the way home. Not a horrible Saturday for not going hunting or fishing lol.

Lolol! Sister does ultrasounds, and I know a few nurses. The stories they tell are friggin hilarious.
I was watching a show about some people ending their trip with a climb up Mt Whitney when I saw your post. It looks amazing. I didn't realize you could day hike Mt Whitney, and it's not even a technical climb. It's not that far from where I am too. I'd like to do that next year.

Why was it removed? It seems odd. How bad could the posts have gotten?
I'd suggest starting a new hiking thread, but it's getting colder, and I don't see myself going out as often as summer. I do want try winter hiking this year though.
Edit: Nvm, I think I found the old thread. Looks like it just died to no activity.

Good find! I searched a couple times for it with no luck.
Definitely post some photos from your trips in there if you get the chance.
It'll be interesting to see the landscapes from the other side of the country.

I saw the note you added above. Thanks! Your ADK pics are pretty cool too. You're in NY, right?
You've got me thinking about starting a new thread. A trip log of sorts to post lots of earth p0rn, talk about gear, and get tips from more ecperienced people. I'm putting together my winter gear now, so I'll be ready when there's actually enough snow in the mountains.
I have a bunch of trips on my wishlist already. I hike mostly in Northern California, but I love Washington and Yosemite too.

Thanks and you should!
Yeah, it's pretty dead. There's only 2-3 active threads, angling, hunting, and The Walking Dead. Lol Its good and bad. Bad for obvious reasons, but good because you almost have a private space in here that you could point people to if you wanted. I ended up starting my own thread for that reason.
