It won't seem real for a while. You'll have to keep reminding yourself he isn't there. I put down both of my dogs within the last couple of years who I had a very strong bond with and it was not easy. Sometimes I still can't believe they aren't here. I had one for 12 years and the other over 15 years.
I have buried both of my parents and that is about as difficult as it gets. Death is a part of life and I have had my fair share. It does get easier with time but it never is completely ok. Time really does help though.
Best of luck to you.

Reb- glad you were able to go and be there. I completely relate that it does not feel real for awhile.
Awesome animals are awesome. One of life's little gifts.

It definitely takes time. I still catch myself looking for Jake sometimes. We went to sleep in the tent in the backyard on Memorial Day because Kev wanted to do it and I caught myself making room for him in between the sleeping bags.

Thanks everyone. Really. I appreciate it very much.
Belle and Mickey are the first pets I have ever had and I got them when I was 16 and had just left my Dad's. They've been the only constant in my life and they have been through a lot with me. For a while they were the only good things in my life.
Awesome animals are awesome, BSG. Without a doubt. Both my cats have been such amazing gifts to me.
I keep reminding myself that Mickey was a rescue and would have been put down at 6 weeks old had I not taken him. He had life because of me. A good life.
Thanks so much for all you've said. I really do appreciate it.DAYUM!!!

We have a 14 year old dog, oldest one I probably owned. He's a mixed breed but the BEST as far as temperament and attitude goes.

Fun! Where's the family vacation going to be?
No joke! I can't wait for that either. Jack asked me why Doug and I were making so much noise last night.
We did a one night thing in Lexington for our "honeymoon." I got married on Saturday and started student teaching on Monday so there was no time for a legit honeymoon. We did have several vacations pre-Jack, though, that all count as honeymoon, in my opinion. This is our first real getaway since Jack was born, though.
What was the bucket list item?Simp's Back: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=165133671&page=1

Sorry, no.
I've always wanted to hike to the summit of the 46 high peaks of the Adirondacks. I've done lots of hiking up there, but never did any of the peaks. We did 2 yesterday. 44 left to go.
Didn't go with the first marriage because we were young and broke. With the second, it's hard to get away for a week with kids. We'll get one someday!https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=17995794

So you just leave us all hanging on this bucket list thing?
WTF?
ETA...this is what happens when you start a post and then get distracted by a cute little man in safety goggles sawing at the table.
At the cabin we go to for ladies weekends.
It's nothing fancy but it's free lake front property with everything we need. It's really more of a house than a cabin.
And it's free.DAYUM!!!
