I've been taking my workout clothes to work and running home from work. Problem is my work is on a huge hill and I'm running downhill (pretty steep) for the first mile or so.
Is there any long term downsides to running downhill? My knees haven't hurt thus far.

Longtime runner here. Unless you are used to running down hill its not a very good idea. You could develop shin splints and knee problems that are going to end up annoying you later. If you can, try and run on flat ground, grassy is best and get a good pair of running shoes. If you are really adamant on doing this try easing into it and see how your body responds to it. Also, remember to stretch after every run.

There are benefits to running down hill. I don't know if this interests you, but running downhill actually can increase your stride length...which can eventually lead you to running faster. However, take note at the prior writers post...shin splints are not a lot of fun I have them and they hurt!
