Full body workout vs Split workout

Why are full body workouts so much better than split workouts for beginners. I remember reading somewhere on this site, that split workouts are better because since the max you should workout is 1 hour, you can work each muscles harder if you do only a few muscles at a time. Here is an example of my friends workout and my workout. We are both 16.

    Mine
Each day I warm up with 10 min on a elliptical
    Monday-Back,Biceps, and Foreams
    Tuesday-Legs and Abs
    Wednesday-Rest
    Thursday-Chest,Triceps, and Shoulders
    Friday-Legs and Abs
    Saturday-Back,Arms, and Shoulders
    Sunday-Rest

    His
    Monday-Whole body minus abs
    Tuesday-Abs
    Wednesday-Whole body minus abs
    Thursday-Whole body
    Friday Abs and Cardio
    Saturady-Rest
    Sunday-Rest

We both have a limited selection of equipment. I tend to use a bigger variety of excersies while he uses one or two.He only work his back and triceps indirectly.I have been told that his workout is better than mine,Why is this?

    Increased frequency.

A novice only needs to do a little bit to disrupt homeostasis and bring about adaptation. Said adaptation occurs fairly quick. Waiting a week before hitting the same muscle or movement again (typical of a bodypart split) wastes this ability.

    This is false.

    Read the stickies.

It is nothing but a waste of time to ask us to critique a workout that doesn't even list exercises. Actually, you have not even listed a workout, just splits.

OK, sorry to waste your time.My equipment is a bowflex machine, a curl bar, a pull up bar, and two dumbells. His is a bench press, pull up bar, and dumbells.so our excersises are based around those pieces of equipment

For my back and biceps I usually do
Standing bicep curls-3 sets of 10(medium weight)
back rows- 3 sets of 12( low weight)
concentration curls-2 sets of 8( high weight)
Back pull downs on bowflex-2 sets of 10( medium weight
pulls ups- 1 set of 8

For my chest and triceps I usually do
Chest flys- 2 sets of 8( high weight)
Bench press- 2 sets of 10( high weight)
Decline press- 2 sets 0f 8( high weight)
Tricep extensions- 3 sets of 10 (medium weight)
    Triceps dips-2 sets of 12
    pushups-1 set 0f 10

This is what my friend does for his back and biceps
    bicep curls-3 sets of 10
concentration curls- 3 sets of 10
pull up bar- 2 sets of 10

What he does for his Chest and triceps
Bench press-4 sets of 8( high weight)
    push ups-5 sets of 10

And what is the max length of time we workout if its not an 1 hour?

As long as it takes to complete your scheduled workout.

The real question is whether or not your scheduled workout is a good one.

I am about to go to the gym and I will probably be in there for over two hours. Maybe as long as 2:20. It all depends on what you do, how much you do, how long you rest, what the rest of your routine is, etc.

Can you get better (freeweight) equipment or join a gym?

    A bowflex isn't so great.

What do you mean by a curl bar? Is it straight or is it an ez curl bar? How much weight do you have for it?

    What do the DBs weigh?

Yeah, I know I know the bowflex isn't nearly as good as free weights, but I'm working on joining a cheap community center gym with a good selection. The curl bar is an EZ curl bar with 45lbs of weight on it. My dumbells are 20lbs each but they are too light for my biceps.
