Ok I've been doing these with running shoes (only kind I have) and I just read you shouldn't do these with shoes that have a compressible sole. Is there any truth to this?
If it's true should I start doing these barefooted?
And what does have a compressible sole affect during these 2 lifts?
Thanks!

i think the reason for that is because it takes away your body's natural balance because it takes your feet off of the ground. if u deadlift or squat barefoot, you'll notice your balance is much better because you feet are flat to the ground. i squat/dead with running shoes because i dont have any flat soled shoes, and i havent noticed any ill effects besides them being a smidge bit harder to maintain form. but nothing really noticeable

**** no!! Don't squat barefooted, my friend used to do that, he only dropped a 5lb weight on his toe turned it into a bloody mess!!!
Imagine dropping a 45lbs plate on your foot, better wear running shoes at-least some protection.
Take a look at some of Ronnie's workouts, and notice that he's wearing some old steel toed boots... Perhaps a pair of army boots would do? Some of them have a flat non-compressible sole.

Flat sole are great for these lifts! I have a pair of flat sole flexible wrestling shoes that I wear on leg days.
I have these

WHy would there be any pain? if you are wearing shoes or not, it's still a couple of hundred lbs on your back, transfered through to your hips, down your legs, and to the floor through your heels. Even if there are shoes in the way, the weight is the same.
If you really want to use shoes, buy a pair of converse. They're pretty good.
Regarding the 'dropping the weight on your feet' issue. A pair of shoes isn't gonna help. at all. I suggest not dropping the weight on your feet as a solution.

Unless you are wearing steel toes, toes will continue to be smashed, regardless of your choice of barefoot or shoes.
Furthermore, using a curved running shoot with a thick heel might cause damage to your knees that will screw with you for the rest of your life if you can't sit back far enough.
So. Either get proper shoes for weight lifting, or: squat barefoot.
Deadlift is less of an issue IMHO. You don't go down as low, the angle is less important.
