Major blowout with my boss yesterday, and went to see Being Flynn which me and Rugby Kid both didn't think was very good. It had effective moments, but it wasn't done right, you know? Will try to get a workout in to release a bit of yesterday's stress.

YAY! Another workout!!
Easy Strength 23/40
Front squats felt good, despite headache and talking too much in between, 50kgs. My warm up is getting better and better.
Pull Ups immediately suffer if I skip a few days on this volume.
Overhead Presses 16kgs, heavy- but very doable. Need to focus on being explosive.
KB Swings 28kgs 20reps
5 rollouts in the TRX.
Ran into Boxing Guy and his girlfriend -whom he 's never acknowledged ever since I found out (his face: ). He's avoided me for the rest of my workout.

Considering throwing in a deload: elbow tendons are inflamed/irritated, readiness to lift just isn't there. And I've not planned a deload for almost 10 weeks now. Plus, week will be crazy busy so it sorta fits.

From English to Dutch. It's kind of fun, we have to work with connotations, X-bar theory, and stuff. Like
'T Was Brillig and the Slithy toves'.. Slithy, to me, seems constructed from slimy, lithe, and slithering. So, I try to find words that roughly have the same rythm, and that I can connect, that have the same first letters (not necessarily SL, but that conjure up words that have the same meaning as slimy and stuff).
Will deload the way that's safest for me: no lifting, just stretching and activation. I'm superbusy this week, so I won't be in the gym much to begin with. I'm a fan of out-of-gym deloading. Be it swimming, hiking, shopping... I always overtrain on intensity. I don't want to risk lifting juuuuuuuuuuuust a little bit, you know? I will go in for stretching on Wednesday, and I will join Roomy for TGU day (we have to ask for KB's, so I'll only get the four and eight out, and tell Roomy I'm deloading). Then, it's almost Sunday again. Plus, I wan to sleep as much as possible, meaning that I won't go in in the mornings. Went in with Rugby Kid this morning, and he did EXCELLENT on his lifts, he's upped most of them but is still comfortable using those weights. Pretty proud. His shoulders have improved so much! And he's not stiff in his lowerback anymore after work.
Will visit Campus Rugby tonight to see what they do during a practice session, count push ups, see how well they run, stuff like that.
Elbows are pretty seriously tendonitis-y, all around. Meh.

Had my first observation session at the rugby club. About 50% is too tight in hips and/or hammies, about 30% in upperback, planks: terrible, Push ups loads of cheating, gluteal amnesia all over the place. Talked to two guys, one just sprained his ankle, one is recovering from a fractured foot. There are a couple of things that are not really helpful:
1) Extremely ambitious trainer,
2) No link yet to the club + captains that don't make that link
3) Still haven't received injury logs yet.

I hope I get to work with the new players (they get a ten week course, once a week, and then transfer to the regular club, that plays one game and has two practices a week), and I would like to start with the hurt group. The trainer wants me to do all that on the field, I don't want that. I want to work with them in a controlled environment where I can test and monitor everything before putting them ought on uneven surfaces. Still haven't heard from the board yet. Have asked the trainer if I can dynamic test the entire team in week 1, and if we can plan the Shuttle Run Test in week 1 or 2.

]I'm an incredible geek about this, but look what I've found:
Week 8 (no horizontal axis labels in this thing..), sorta trouble-ish, week 10: **** hits fan. It's the off week from the first couple of matches. However, training was regular intensity (pre-season stuff). Bad news. Red is match yes or no (1 = yes) and blue is injuryweeks per player (average). After the first block of games (red), the trainer didn't cut back on intensity but kept the pre-season attitude. See how injury rates go up? Definitely a clue to solving the injury rate mystery!

It looks like they scaled back down though or is that just incomplete data? It sounds like their injury rate is horrendous. What kind of rehab do they use? Are they doing any soft tissue manipulations or just resting? This is so cool!

There is no organized system yet. Some guys find physiotherapists, some don't. And there is no coordination of strength training between green light from physiotherapist and competing. We're roughly at the end of the second competition block right now. The rest is stuff I pencilled in for the year (and injury rates drop accordingly, because I haven't recorded anything yet in those weeks)

Easy Strength 2, 1/40 Orrrrrrrrrrrrr... IS it 24/40?
Anyway,
Front Squats, 50kgs, lighter, easier than before, ever since I had my roommate triggerpoint my tibialis posterior and anterior, and peroneals.
Pull Ups were Meh. But they always are to me, because I want to be better at them.
OHP 16kgs, 5/5 per side, right shoulder felt stiff until I did a one arm dead hang.
KB Snatch started light, 12kgs, 12/12, figure I go heavier next week.

I like it a lot. It gives me the comfort of dumping the bar easily, I like the range of motion, I also like the extra effort because I feel like I stretch out my trunk more than with a back squat. Plus, with recent issues, I want to avoid wide stance for a while. I like zerchers too. And I like back squat, but I don't see why it should be 'better' than any other type of squat. When I competed, it gave m,e the advantage of comparing myself to others using the same lift. But front squats, like.

definitely not. I don't have the time nor the money. And events around my last competition sort of killed any hunger for competing for now. I might, but I want to explore this coaching thing first. I'll lift for fun, and for fit-hood () but I'm not motivated enough to go through all that hassle again. Especially not now that I'll have to depend on everybody else for transport and stuff like that, AND don't have a training partner. Good training partners are crucial in the process (Viking promised I could call him if I'd lift at the Nationals. I guess we all know better than that). Plus, my coach is not available now, due to him training abroad and personal circumstances. And I want him on board if I do it.
Yep, I used to think the LB back squat > all other variants. I'm really glad I decided to give it a whirl, though. It fixed some quad imbalance that was causing my knee discomfort.Last edited by Euqinom; 11-20-2012 at 09:20 AM.
