noob gains
sometime mid summer I believe.. see below
This weeks workout big lifts I squatted 5 x 315 x 5 on Monday, benched 4 x 225 x 5 on Wednesday, pulled 5 x 365 x 5 Thursday and benched 5 x 245 x 3 yesterday..
Time for the sh!tty news.. my tumour markers for testicular cancer dropped to normal which meant I didn't have to do chemo, then one of them started rising again suggesting early relapse of micro spread of the testicular cancer, so I have to do 9 weeks of chemo starting on Monday Dec 22 and if all goes well Ill be done mid February. Since it was an early relapse and detected early, cure rate is around 99% which gives me a lot of optimism to look forward too. On days I feel good, Ill engage in light physical activity which should mitigate plenty of side effects from the chemo. I shall do this, and beat this, OUTWORK!! Wasn't straight, lean forward a bit threw things off.
Sunday I squatted 4 x 365 x 2, 5th set did 365 x 3 .. felt good and smooth, form was spot on.
Did first day of chemo yesterday, wasn't bad.. waited 1 hour for pharmacist to make medicine, 1 hour to infuse it, 30 min for saline solution to suck it out. Came home at 1pm and slept for 2 hours just due to lack of sleep. Felt good yesterday.
Trained today following chemo.
Bench Press
4 x 225 x 5
225 x 8
Incline Dumbbell Press
3 x 70 x 8 dropset 50 x 6 last set
Fat Grip Close Grip Pullups
6 x body weight x 6
Fat Grip Seated Rows
100 x 12
120 x 12
140 x 12
Fat Grip Dumbbell Curls
4 x 30 x 8
Fat Grip Triceps Pushdowns
4 x 30 x 8
Chemo was the same as yesterday, waited 1 hour for them to make it nice and fresh, 1 hour to infuse, 30 min for saline to flush it out and protect kidneys. Came home 1pm, napped for 45 min, felt good.
Trained in the evening, good energy, BRB strong 225 for 8, my PR is I think 12 which was before surgery, come at me chemo. The key is to drink alot of water; I'm only 2 days in so might as well enjoy exercise at a good intensity while I can. Theres a bunch of evidence supporting the efficacy of exercise mitigating chemotherapy induced fatigue and improving quality of life, so I'll keep that as my motivations for the days I feel like sh!t; I'll tone down the intensity, its fine with me, exercise is medicine!!
I also got 8 week supply of HMB FA from muscletech.. they hooked me up as our lab group is doing a collaboration with them. I started taking 3g a day yesterday, and will use the 8 week supply throughout chemo in order to attenuate any muscle loss. There is some evidence supporting the efficacy of HMB attenuating anticancer therapy induced muscle loss, so might as well give it a shot; so far so good with the 225 x 8!!!
Going in tomorrow for another 3 hours, Christmas I am off, Fri and then Sat on my birthday I am in there, turn up turn up!! I'll be home in the afternoon Saturday, so I'll spend my birthday with my family and friends, so it will be good. Feeling good for now, enjoying it whilst it lasts!! 19 more days of chemo over 9 weeks, if all goes well, I'll be done mid February, OUTWORK!@! !Workout Log - http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=122921511

Today did 385 x 6 last set, ill take that any day... keep intensity of my workouts moderate.. 20lb PR from last week and 3 rep PR on last set ftw .. appetite is through the roof from the corticosteroids im on, so that will help retain as much gains as possible; obv to want to get too fluffy during chemo.
Going in for a quick chemo session tomorrow, so not gonna train. Will train prob wed fri sat or something .. We shall see how I feel, day by day!
Nonetheless great workout today.

It should, but so far not really, just feel some what dizzy on the days I get chemo and I train, but hey I'll enjoy what I've achieved so far. It gets tougher each round so we will see how I do.
Bench Press
5 x 250 x 3
Chest Dips
3 x body weight x 15
Chinups
3 x body weight x 10
Fat Grip Neutral Grip Pullups
4 x body weight x 6
Fat Grip Curls
3 x 30 x 8
Fat Grip Tricep Pushdowns
3 x 130 x 8
Fat Grip Lateral Raises
3 x 20 x 10
Getting close to my old PR of 5 x 275 x 3 for bench so I am really happy with my benching today given my circumstances. BRB fat grip everything else, working on that grip clearly. Everything else went well, good energy levels today in the gym.
Saw oncologist today, and the chemo is doing its job which is good news. Pre chemo tumor marker was over 700, its now down to 29, normal is between 0-6; and given the half life is 2 days, should be there sometime next week, so thats good news.
Also my white blood cell count is low from chemo which is expected, so we will look at them again on Monday before chemo, and if they are still down, I'll get to inject a drug into myself to force my bone marrow to produce for white blood cells in order to protect me from getting infections; yay!!
I plan on resting tomorrow, then squatting light on Sunday, then Mon-Fri I'm getting the poison, so if I can get in a couple training sessions then that would be great, but I'll play by ear.Last edited by SydTheKid; 01-09-2015 at 05:46 PM.

Thanks man, I'm trying too, this semester is going to be really busy with teaching 2 courses for grad school, working on papers, and preparing for a bunch of experiments all while getting chemo. But so far so good!
Squats
5 x 425 x 2
425 x 6 PR
Front Squats
3 x 185 x 8
GHR
3 x body weight + 0.85" band x 10
Seated Calf Raises
4 x 2 Plates + 25 x 8 last set drop set 2 Plates x 15
I had originally planned to do 315 today, but I was like fcuk it lets go heavy before chemo tomorrow.
So I planned on doing 5 x 425 x 2, then 6th set 425 x 4 to get to 6,000lb volume. BRB 6th set too easy, beast moded 6 ftw!!
I don't think I've ever done 6 before, so that's a default PR. I've been 405 x 10, and 455 x 5 before.
Everything else went well, feeling good today as well yay.
Tomorrow got chemo in the morning, then from 2-4 I got to teach dat ex phys class, should be fun. Then I'll come home and nap.
Hopefully train Tues Thurs and Sun this week to get in 4 days, well see how I feel. Day by day.Workout Log - http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=122921511

I read about your post with the teste cancer a while back but never said anything...wasn't really sure what to say. I don't really know how it happened but thank God you pulled through brah! Hopefully it doesn't come back through your life and did I read that right you only have 1 now? Can't even fathom that....but it looks like you have it all figured out. Good luck with the grad school and gjdm at getting back to those numbers despite fcking CHEMO. Doing big things Syd, stay strong and stay safe.

ya got one, but I am twice the man now hehe
No idea how it happened, prob luck of the draw.. no family history, don't smoke, not steroid use, no other risk factors other then my age; most diagnosed cancer in men 20-30, but fortunately its the most treatable.
2% chance it can happen in the other one, but I'm not gonna think of that, lifting keeps me sane so I'll continue doing that!
First round went way better then expected, didn't let me hold me back, had a fun birthday and new years, went shopping, didn't miss a workout, lived normally and continue doing so.
No idea how round 2 will go, so we will continue playing by ear and will destroy this sh!t!!Workout Log - http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=122921511
