hey. im ben, new to bb.com been trying to post some get to know everybody. i started lifting heavy in august to bulk up for football/wrestling and look better. i workout sunday-thursday using dumbells, machines, smith machine squats [i dont have anybody to spot me] pretty hard for 90ish minutes a night followed by a dry heat sauna workout.
Last year during wrestling i started dipping here and there just to chill, and started doing it regularly. i quit over the summer but recently took it up again. so 2 questions on that
1. what are the effects of chewing on me, 6.0, 160ish pounds [too skinny, bulking]
2. any other skoal brothers on here?
my other question is about drinking. i'll drink socially 1-2 times a week with friends but im sure not an alcoholic or anything. I've been having trouble bulking and im thinking this is a cause. i dont drink beer, dont want the belly. just more some rum here and there or just some UV on the weekends. I rarely throw up, dont have bad hangovers, and always do a little cardio and lots of protein/carbs/vitamins the day after.
any thoughts/constructive criticism from anyone else who drinks/chews but high value on fitness/bulking?
dont hate, appreciate

cant speak on the skoal but as someone who has gone in and out of social binge drinking it has some pretty bad effects on bbing, i doubt its hard to bulk but its very hard to build muscle while you're drinking as it drains all the water from your body and hinders the growth of muscles.
do a quick search here to find out all the scientific facts. generally i would say its ok to drink every once in awhile but going out and getting hammered 2-3 times a week will probably erase any gains from the week.

chewing not going to have a HUGE factor so don't worry about that, the drinking beer/ hard alcohol will have the biggest affect on your body and restrict you from maximizing to your potential, but everyone likes a few drinks and a good time so who cares.

I can't speak for dipping since I've never done it, but I feel alcohol definitely sets you back. Any time I've had more than a few drinks and especially doing it on consecutive days I've regressed, and I would imagine it's the same for most people. It dehydrates you, slows down your metabolism, decreases testosterone, and if you're working out the next day you know you're not gonna be able to give it 100%. However, everyone likes to drink. No need to give it up. Just use it in moderation.

Skoal Brother here, well actually I really stick with Grizzly and Kodiak but I'll toss Skoal every now and then. It won't have any effect. Post-Workout chews are the balls.

the only negative thing i can think of chewing will have is nicotine is an appetite suppresant and a metabolism booster so it will make it harder to bulk

lol yeah i hear that all the time. i have no problem admitting im a complete pussy when it comes to drinking beer. i know it's "an aquired taste bro you pussy drink it aghh yah!!" but i'd rather just have some liquor then spend time slamming watery, bitter piss
i try not to get drunk more then once a week, dont want gyno. I read some articles yeah, and the decrease in testosterone does worry me though. thinking about cutting back to only once every 2-3 weeks.
and love @ skoal brothers. yeah the metabolism thing is something a few of my friends have mentioned but it hasnt been a problem for me yet. bring on the throat cancer haha.

Ditto. Skoal Vanilla ftw.. expensive and hard to find.. and REALLY hard to find fresh, ftl.
I go through a can of Grizz wintergreen either fine cut or long cut between monday and friday and a half a can on Saturday and Sunday. The only thing is don't dip before, during, or within an hour after working out. Nicotine constricts your bloods vessels, so I would imagine that's not too good for lifting.

ex skoal/grizzly brother it doesnt effect gains but it feels soo much better when you quit. itll kill your appetite and youll prob gain 5-10 pds within 1 month of quitting due to being able to eat a crap load more. but id quit at your age, trust me quitting then having that 1 occasional lip will be worth it! by the way the pain of quitting dip when your heavily addicted is how i can imagine childbirth.

I dip a lot and then stop and my appetite goes insane. I feel like I could eat all day. As for drinking it will dehydrate you but drinking with your friends is fun so who cares...
