Young women are more promiscuous than men, according to a survey that claims the average 21-year-old has had nine sexual partners compared with seven for men.

The poll of 2,000 by the magazine More also found that one in four young women has slept with more than 10 people, compared with one in five men who had done the same.

In addition, half of those questioned admitted they had been unfaithful, whereas only a quarter said they had been cheated on by a boyfriend.


It comes just a week after an academic study branded Britain one of the casual sex capitals of the Western world, with residents having more one-night stands and more liberal attitudes than those in Australia, France, the Netherlands, Italy and the US.

Lisa Smosarski, the editor of More, said: "Our results show that after decades of lying back and thinking of England, today's twenty-something women are taking control of their sex lives and getting what they want in bed."

The magazine's survey found that few young women today hold to traditional views on sexual morality.

Just 1 per cent of young women said they would want to get married before having sex, with the majority losing their virginity at 16.

More than half said they were not in love with their first partner, and only one in three believe it is important to be in love with someone before going to bed with them.

Seven out of 10 said they had had a one-night stand, with a fifth admitting to having had more than five casual encounters.

In addition, 60 per cent said they would be prepared to do a "kiss-and-tell", and would sell their account of a one-night-stand with a famous person for $20,000.

Four out of 10 said they would marry for money or sleep with their boss if it meant they would get promoted, while a quarter would have an affair with a married man.

The survey also found young women are taking "huge risks" with their health, with 38 per cent not using a condom with a new partner and 16 per cent having contracted a sexually transmitted disease.

However the respondents still claimed they are not having as much sex as they would like, with 13 per cent claiming their love life is "disappointing" and a further 10 per cent calling it "non-existent".

According to the survey, the average young woman has sex three times a week but would prefer to do it five times.

The world population is about 48% men and 52% women because women live a few years longer on average than men do. So all the age cohorts are about 50/50 except for the very old.

seirously though, if this is based on the population of Britain....

england and Britain as a whole i guess, ain't a place with the most values, to say the least. can i see this study coming out with roughly the same results if done over here i the U.S.... based on my own experience yes, although there may be a difference b/c there are a great deal more pple over here and religion has a better hold in the states. plus pple just might have more values compared to those who don't and thus making them different then that of the U.K.'s. they banned toothbrushes that looked like (on purpose) vibrators. the teenage girls who bought them were asked how theyd buy one with the age restriction (b/c men are allowed to buy them, but not females under 45) and they said theyd get, and i friggn' quote, " a chap to buy them for me." when asked how theyd get them to, one female replied, and I quote, " id give him a bj." kinda paraphrased that last part, but that is almost identical to what she said, it was some other slang tohugh and i can't remember.

Guess you didn't read my post above yours (posted minute before you so understandable ).

I've noticed guys definitely care more about the numbers than girls. But maybe it's like 50/50 on who cares more. It really just depends on the person. I personally don't think it matters that much, unless it is a ridiculously high number that makes the person like porn star status. But besides that the number really doesn't affect me or how I view the person.

This. I've noticed that guys care so much more about "the number" than girls.

So let me ask you this:

What effect does it have on your perception of a guy if you find out he has slept with 20+ women?
Does it make you more/less attracted to him?
Do you think he must be pretty good in bed, or desirable to other women, and therefore find him more attractive?
Or do you think of him as a man-whore, untrustworthy and not boyfriend material?

On the other end of the scale, what if a guy's slept with only 1 or 2 women, or is even a virgin? How would that change your perception of him?

Maybe men are just more picky in who they choose to have relationships with?
I've known some great girls who were absolutely gorgeous, fun to be around, and would be great girlfriend material in every way other than the fact that they slept around a lot and had a bit of a reputation for it. Despite being great girls, none of the guys that knew what she was like would ever consider having her as anything more than a fukbuddy at best

In contrast, I also know the male equivalent of those girls, and women don't tend to take their promiscuity into account and are usually happy to get into relationships with them (again, maybe because they know other women find them desirable). Those same women inevitably end up in tears when the guy cheats on them, say all men are a$$holes and wonder why they can never find the right guy
