    Should i bulk or cut for football?

    im either trying to get wide receiver or runningback. Im 5'9,150 and i did a pretty ****ty bulk so now im kinda skinny fat.

    heres a pic of me, i gained a little bit of fat since then

    what the hell get big. do explosive workouts. football is speed, strength and size. explosive workouts. it'll do you wonders.

    Bulk up man! I remember when I weighed 150 senior year like 8 months before football and started bulkin and ended up at almost 200 and it was awesome! no more bein the little guy ya know? If you wanna play running back then def. bulk. If reciever, then still bulk but gat fast too.. Good luck

    Lol everyone's sorta right.

    Compound lifts: The building blocks; squat, deadlift, bench, military press, trap bar dead (explosive leg power), etc. Get STRONG.
    Oly lifts: Power clean, clean and jerk, are equally important and part of that "explosive" workout you want.
    Strongman: Yes this is also very useful. Tire flips, sled drags, car sprints, keg toss, etc. all develop useful strength.
    Endurance/Cardio: Don't neglect this! You're bulking for a sport, not just for the sake of putting on weight, so don't let your cardio endurance slip up or you'll pay for it later.
    Plyometrics/flexibility: Another hugely important aspect of football training. Box jumps, long/high jumps, footwork, etc. etc.

    But yes, you should bulk.

    Go here and read up on some of his programs. Trust me, this guy knows what hes talkin about when it come to training for football.. And eat a **** load of food. If your trying to be a running back, you deff need to pack on some size .

    Just start lifting and eating. You don't need to worry about 'bulk/cut' because you have very little lifting experience, I assume. Just worry about getting bigger.. stronger.. faster.

    Bulking/cutting gets thrown around this section way too much.

    Just do work, be smart.

    seemed like he meant overall size for running backs, whereas receivers can get away with a weaker upper body (although, of course, strength would be ideal)

    neither. being in a sport is different from bodybuilding. it requires athleticism. work out and eat as if you were bulking but add a lot of running and sprint in. you need to be fast, strong, and have endurance. i could go into more detail but dont have time.

    If you want to be a good running back, you'll need to gain 50 pounds. If you want to be a good receiver, you'll need to gain 25.

    Oh, and be pretty lean at both.
