Yup, this news is yet to hit your television sets or even internet websites...if there are any US Marines or US Army soldiers in Afghanistan they know what im talking about...or if they want to keep it a secret, their choice.......some of you might know that I live in the tribal areas of NWFP-Pakistan, about 30-45 mins. from the Afghan border......theres actually alot of commotion due to Taliban shooting down the plane.....it is NOT a Pakistan air force or Pakistan Army Aviation plane, and it is not a private/passenger plane either. The only planes that ventures in this territory(MirahShah) are either American drones, or PAK Army Aviation, according to my information(from a friend in 45 AA 19/division-PAK ARMY stationed in WANA-WAZIRISTAN), all Aviation birds are safe and sound, and all are on ground ATM..........so this is mostly def. an American drone. Ive also called some people, and they have seen the plane down, and they said they are not sure if its American or not, but it was definitely not a Pakistani Air Force/ Army Aviation/ Private jet.

I live very near to the Angoor Ada village...and the plane actually fell there too, ofcourse the news will spread out in the local vicinity first.....but anyways, ive got friends in the PAK ARMY both in Angoor Ada and in Wana that I confirmed this with.
And there are 2 teams right now being mobilized to get to the drone, one of them is being mobilized by the Frontier Corps. and im pretty sure the other one is a small team assembled from the 19 Lancers, they are the closest to the crash site.NJ Crew

I find it very unlikely one was shot down. The UAVs like the Predator aren't very big, so even spotting one would be very difficult, the pilots are careful about keeping it over certain elevations. If, and thats a very small if, someone did manage to shoot one down it would be just sheer luck.

Actually according to eye witnesses, it WAS SHOT DOWN, right now ISPR(Inter Services Public Relations-PAK ARMY) gave a briefing to the local media that the US officials said it crashed due to a technical fault.
Im pretty sure ISPR gave that briefing on request of the US officials, but eye witnesses are saying there were actually 8-10 RPGs (or whatever they used) fired.
My friend is on the team that is going to reach the drone crash site anytime now, I'll confirm this with him.NJ Crew

No, it doesnt justifies your actions there. That drone shouldnt have been in Pakistan airspace in the first place. Thats violation #1. Instead of the Taliban, the drone should have been taken down by the Pakistani Forces.
On the other hand, there are LESS bomb explosions and Talibanization happening in Pakistan than in Afghanistan. Right now your forces have a duty to Afghanistan, not Pakistan. Afghanistan has much more of those problems than Pakistan.NJ Crew

Thanks for that.
I would have thought the Taliban were classed by the American military as a big threat in Pakistan already. Especially under the current circumstances, in SWAT etc. But this gives America an excuse to carry on its incursions into Pakistani territory. Seriously though, if they are sending drones over into another countrys airspace then what do they expect ? It was only a matter of time i suppose... inevitable. Pakistan is a soverign state, America does not have a right to just invade its airpace at will.Usually when people are sad they don't do anything, they just cry over their condition. Thanks. Well, if its without Pakistani consent then its just arrogance on Americas part IMO. Like Lucky has said already, America has big problems in Afghanistan at the moment, by drawing the whole NWF of Pakistan into the equation the situation will just get worse. If America wants to treat Pakistan like an ally it should at least respect the countrys soverignity instead of just invading at will and causing civilian deaths on numerous occasions etc.

helix you actually expressed what was missing...you request & await consent from your allies. The US will be fully aware that Pak assistance ans support not being sought is in reality invasion. It isn't the first time.
Blimey even the FBI & CIA don't like each other stepping on territory without prior agreement. Not only on the same side but the same gov employs them !La illaha illah Allah Muhammad Rasulallah

RPGs? LoL. The max range on most RPGs is around 1100m, whereas the Predator can fly up to 26000 feet. So unless the TB recently picked up some SAMs. The more likely scenario is, it crashed (it does happen) and of course the local TB claims they shot it down for propaganda purposes.

Setting aside the foreign policy decisions made by our President. . . There's no reason to pretend that our forces can only operate in Afghanistan OR Pakistan. We're doing what we need to do in both areas, and troop levels into Afghanistan are now increasing by close to 20,000.

Alright, I wasn't sure what was coming from your friends and what was released through the military. Seems sorta weird for them to be like, "yeah, one of our planes was shot down and we're setting people there right now."
Right, and if a foreign spy/assault plane is shot down over the US, it proves that we are a threat and should be attacked.

LOL, Taliban NEVER CLAIMED IT. If you re-read my post, I NEVER MENTIONED OF TALIBAN CLAIMING THIS INCIDENT. It might come of as a surprise to you, but this crash happened @ 4PM PST, right now its 7:28 PM, and still no Taliban has accepted this incident.
If you re-read my post, I stated, that the locals WITNESSED the plane getting shot...and they heard and saw 8-10 RPGS.
And again, if you look at the context of my post, after RPGs I mentioned "OR WHATEVER THEY FIRED" because I was already aware that it couldnt have been an RPG.
Although, the locals are not upto par with military terms, even if it was a stinger or hell even a cruise missile, they would have still called it an RPG LOLLast edited by Lucky_ROA; 03-07-2009 at 06:33 AM.

It's not just America, but Nato in Afghanistan, and the biggest problem with the war in Afghanistan is due to most of the Taliban being safe in Pakistan. The only way the terrorists are going to be beaten is if Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nato co-operate in the Afghan/Pakistan border regions. And it's a drone crashing/being shot down, it's not major news at all so i'll be surprised if any news reports it, unless Pakistan make a big stink of it.

YES, my thread title is based on the views of the people who witnessed it. Because I got the news right as it happened. The plane crashed at 4pm, and I got the news around 4:15.....who else would have fired it down ?
But the ISPR with all its good relations with the US Forces, felt it was unnecessary to take witnesses into account, and before even going to the crash site, call this incident a TECHNICAL FAULT.Last edited by Lucky_ROA; 03-07-2009 at 06:40 AM.
