..if he weren't president.
https://thehill.com/policy/national-...n-charged-withHundreds of former federal prosecutors have signed a letter asserting President Trump would have been charged with obstruction of justice if he didn't occupy the Oval Office.
In Monday's letter, former Department of Justice (DOJ) officials said the evidence of obstruction as laid out in special counsel Robert Mueller’s report was enough to bring forward an obstruction charge.
Mueller declined to say in his 448-page report whether Trump should be charged with obstruction of justice. Attorney General William Barr has said he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein determined there was insufficient evidence to bring forward such a charge.
But the ex-prosecutors say they don’t believe there was a lack of evidence, and they point to Mueller’s findings that Trump ordered then-White House counsel Don McGahn to fire the special counsel and later draft documents asserting that Trump never made that request.
They cited other acts outlined in Mueller’s report, like Trump’s efforts to limit the scope of the special counsel’s investigation, as being substantial enough to support an obstruction charge.
The former DOJ employees said it "runs counter to logic and our experience" to examine the evidence and say that a prosecutor wouldn’t be able to get a conviction for obstruction of justice.
They argued that guidance issued by the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) that states a sitting president cannot be indicted was the deciding factor in Mueller's decision not to bring forward an obstruction charge.
“As former federal prosecutors, we recognize that prosecuting obstruction of justice cases is critical because unchecked obstruction — which allows intentional interference with criminal investigations to go unpunished — puts our whole system of justice at risk,” the letter reads. “We believe strongly that, but for the OLC memo, the overwhelming weight of professional judgment would come down in favor of prosecution for the conduct outlined in the Mueller Report.”

Fake Russia dossier paid for by Hillary and the DNC and used to launch the witch hunt against Trump with the objective of bringing down a sitting President.
Pure fraud at the highest levels of government. Costing the US $50 Million and fueling 2 years of false allegations and character assassination from the MSM of a sitting President.
Conclusion was no collusion with Russians. Now that that was concluded, the goal post is moved to obstruction of justice by a President who was set up by the highest ranking members of our government.

Barr said if the investigation was founded on illegal basis Trump had every right to do everything he could to stop it. Barr is the acting AG, not an anonymous former prosecutor.

The Steele Dossier was not used to start the investigation, even though most of it was proven true.
The cost was not $50 million and the assets seized from Trump's campaign manager Paul Manafort exceeded the cost of the investigation, and actually turned a profit for the government.
The conclusion was that a sitting president could not be indicted. There was plenty of evidence of bot h collusion and obstruction in the Mueller report.
Wow..

Who cares what some former Obama or Bush attorneys have to say? The signature petition was started by "Protect Democracy" which is run by Ian Bassin, a former Obama White House lawyer ( https://twitter.com/ianbassin ).
Looking up Ian Bassin's donations on Fec.gov, he gives tons of money to ActBlue, Beto for Texas, Swing Left, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, but he assures everyone on his website that he's "non-partisan"
Okay, Jeff

That didn’t answer my question.
But since you brought it up Comey also wrote a letter exonerating her without even interviewing. And the AG at the time (Lynch)instructed Comey to refer to her investigation as a matter instead of investigation. Yet I didn’t see you on here claiming a cover up. Wonder why that is

Right. The Steele Dossier sparked the bogus investigation against the President. AG Barr will be investigating the investigation. Since the investigation was based upon fraud, and involved the highest of the highest of government officials, some serious shiit is going to go down.
You sound like Schiff saying that there was plenty of evidence of collusion when that is 100% false as stated by Mueller. And, absolutely no evidence has ever been presented by Schiff, because he is a liar.

There is a reason Mueller did not even attempt to subpoena Trump when it came to the Obstruction portion of the investigation.
From page 391 of the Mueller report pdf
In contrast, the President’s actions to serve political or policy interest would not qualify as corrupt. The President’s role as head of the government necessarily requires him to take into account political factors in making policy decisions that affect law enforcement actions and proceedings. For instance, the President’s decision to curtail a law-enforcement investigation to avoid international friction would not implicate the obstruction of justice statutes.
