Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but Rangers were only recently labeled a "Special Forces" group. They were always infantry; elite and effective, but not SF.

Besides, these jobs vary WILDLY in task. SEALs plant bombs on enemy boats (among other things), RECON is exactly what the name implies, PJs are paramedics, etc.. You'd have to figure out which you'd want to be and then make it happen depending on what kind of job you'd like to do.

    is this a joke

All you retards who say anything other than SEAL.. can shoot yourself in the face ask any active duty person in any military branch and you will get one answer.. SEAL is second to no one. it is the hardest training offered by the military.

first and foremost, im an active duty Marine, LAR by trade, but even aside from the natural bias thoughts from anyone thats involved, this guy raises some pretty interesting points..

During the Korean War, a captured North Korean officer confessed, "Panic sweeps my men when they are facing the American Marines."

Chinese premier Mao Tse Tung himself issued a "death contract" on the entire 1st Marine Division, which he stated had the "highest combat effectiveness" of any unit in the U.S. armed forces. "It seems not enough for our four divisions to surround and annihilate [the 1st Marine Division's] two regiments," Mao said to the commander of the Chinese 9th Army Group. "You should have one or two more divisions as a reserve force."

As late as 1991, when coalition forces were positioned to launch a massive overland attack on Iraq from Saudi Arabia, more than 100,000 Iraqi soldiers were hunkered down behind coastal defenses along the Iraqi-Kuwaiti shoreline anticipating a landing by U.S. Marines, whom they had dubbed "Angels of Death." And these are but a few of countless examples of enemy forces taking seriously the fact that a U.S. Marine is the "toughest," the "highest quality," the finest combatant the American taxpayer can throw into the fight.

"The deadliest weapon in the world is a Marine and his rifle." — U.S. Army Gen. John J. "Black Jack" Pershing

In May 2004, Divine reported from Baghdad, "The Special Operations soldiers are not alone in their successes here in Iraq. The U.S. Marine Corps has, once again, proven itself to be the best fighting force in the history of mankind. The warrior ethic of Marines are paralleled only by Special Operations Forces, and they manage to embed that spirit into 175,000 troops."

keep in mind, these are not the opinions of mr. Smith Jr. You cannot refute any of these facts. And remember, Devil Dogs (or "Teufel Hunden"/"Hounds from Hell; Given to Marines from the german forces during WWII at The Battle of Belleau Wood in 1918.) Angels of Death. We werent dubbed these names from the boy scouts, mind you. which other branches have a track record as we do? yes, we fight for the same team, and yes it is difficult to stack branches agains each other seeing as how certain forces have different roles. but id say Marines come out on top pound for pound.

    quotes by
    — W. Thomas Smith Jr., a former U.S. Marine infantry leader, parachutist, and shipboard counterterrorism instructor, writes about military/defense issues and has covered conflict in the Balkans and on the West Bank. He is an award-winning author of four books, the co-author of two, and his articles have appeared in USA Today, George, U.S. News & World Report, BusinessWeek, National Review Online, CBS News, The Washington Times, and many others.

marines are kinda overrated imo, they always get the ****tiest gear and get the bad end of the stick, and they are always portrayed as younger soldiers .

exactly how can one be considered "over-rated" if they have the crappiest gear and the ****e end of the stick but all the while still have the highest combat effectiveness of all the branches. given, seals are more secret and america doesnt exactly know the extent of their history or record. as i said, different roles. its hard to stack em all up against each other.

and im tired of people saying stop comparing them. we're all on the same team. well when one asks the question of whos best, let others give their opinion. although civilians or those without any real knowledge or experience doesnt really have an opinion at all

BRO your an idiot. you obviously dont know anything about the military. You just think that the SEALS have the longest hardest training because thats all you know. in fact, other special operations organizations such as AirForce Combat Control, AirForce Parerescue, and army SF have the same length in training. SEALS is about 2 years unitl they can deploy same as the other 3. I personally am a combat controller in the airforce, and this pipeline has a 86% washout rate, and Parerescue alone has a 98% washout rate, and Parerescue was also rated hardest job in the military. So your little SEAL theory is very mistaken BUD?....sorry. SEALS are not the best.

if the marine corps had their own PR im sure it would be no less difficult or bad ass. just like corpsmen; we dont have em, so the navy supplies them. after that, they almost become one. and in some cases, they do. (unofficially of course, at heart not paper) PR rescue spec ops because we dont have our own PR. So take some PR and tell them to travel 200 clicks into enemy territory for a couple a week or so and gather intel. not gonna happen.

This is no contest. PJ's have to be in the top one percent when it comes to knowledge, they have countless things that need to be done just to get into the 9 weeks of qualifing ( which %100 percent living hell ). After passing that they still need over two more years of training to become full pj's. They will become expert parachutists, sucba divers, EMT's, and marksman. Classes that begin the nine weeks have 100 to 150 Airmen in them. Often times only numbers like 4 or 6 remain. PJ's are Airborne Rangers, Navy divers, and medics rolled into one.

Pararescue is obviously incredibly difficult to get through in terms of training and whatnot, but they don't even actually fight, do they? Isn't the purpose of pararescue to go into hot zones and get the dead/wounded? Are they even issued guns? (srs questions)

In these hot zones if there were hostiles, would a gun be a good idea, yes or no
