That being said, which of these sounds like the better choice?

    The new Helios Predator 300:

    9th Generation Intel Core i7-9750h 6-Core Processor (Up to 4. 5GHz) with Windows 10 Home 64 Bit
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics with 6GB of dedicated GDDR6 VRAM
    15. 6" Full HD (1920 x 1080) widescreen LED-backlit IPS display (144Hz refresh rate, 3ms Overdrive response time, 300Nit Brightness & 72% NTSC)
    16GB DDR4 2666MHz Memory (2 x 8GB), 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD (2 x PCIe M. 2 slots | 1 slot open for easy upgrades) & 1 - Available hard drive bay
    Backlit keyboard | LAN: Killer Ethernet E2500 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN | wireless: Killer DoubleShot Pro Wireless-AC 1550 802. 11AC | 4th gen All-Metal AeroBlade 3D fan

or the new HP omen 15

    Intel Core i7-9750H Processor 2.6GHz
    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6GB GDDR6
    16GB DDR4-2666 RAM
    512GB Solid State Drive
    Microsoft Windows 10 Home
    Multi-format Digital Media Card Reader
    10/100/1000 Network
    2x2 Realtek WiFi 6+Bluetooth 5.0 Combo
    15.6" Full HD 144Hz IPS Anti-Glare Micro-Edge WLED-backlit Display

They're both the same price. I'm a little worried about the Omen because it apparently has some thermal/heat issues
You're getting a lot more bang for your buck with the HP Omen specs. You can always add an m.2 in the future if you choose. And to fix termal issues, just watch some detailed YouTube videos on how to apply liquid metal and re paste the entire thing. It's not hard and can be done in an hour.

My feel when about to drop $3k between new desktop and monitor to play this game:

My feels when I think about how sick it's going to be to finally play it on max settings with ray tracing at 1440 resolution though:

Waiting to see what hardware is available is your best bet. I think the 3000 series will be AMD's flagship but games like these aren't so CPU dependent anyway. At this rate the new '2080ti super' or whatever it'll be called will likely be the single card champ at release time, but I doubt it'll be enough to push 60 fps + at 4k with RT...though this isn't an argument in favor of the consoles either because they certainly won't be able to either.

That was my point. The only people who don't appreciate the horsepower required for RT are (today) Nvidia's marketing team. You were talking about building a new PC and I'm not optimistic that the hardware available at the release of this game will be ready, even if it is your best bet to wait, for a high fidelity experience of this game at 4k. I suppose 1440p should be fairly easily doable at reasonable FPS on PC.

2080Ti should definitely run it at max at 1440 resolution and definitely at least 50-60+ fps. It will run pretty much anything out now at 4K 60+ (and many games much much higher than 60 frames), so I don't think it will be an issue to do CP2077 60+ at 1440. Maybe I need my vision chcekd, but I can't notice any differnce from 1440 to 4K resolution. 1080 to 1440 is a definite difference. But I don't see the difference from 1440 to 4K. I'll be over the moon to play it in 1440 resolution on max settings with that HBB ray tracing.

Also CDPR announced yesterday they are working very closely with the Nvidia RTX team to make sure the ray tracing is as solid as possible (and I'm sure as optimized as possible) upon release.

I notice the difference in my use: 27 inch monitor sitting within a few feet distance to the screen, but I could bet in some use cases that the jump isn't that noticeable. I have been on 1440p since 2010 or so on my PC, and still notice the 4K improvement.

On the video card: I would hope so about the 2080Ti, and with the announcement of the 2080Ti Super (replacement of the 2080Ti with a new chip, apparently) I'm wondering if that will be the final flagship card by April next year. Why do I wonder? Because of the new HDMI standard I want for 4k120Hz. I entered the thread when bartosh was talking about building a new PC and I'm still planning mine - but am waiting for the new ports to push graphics as far as I can at high frames.

looking to build a new pc soon but im holding off until i can do ray tracing at 1440p60fps with a $500 or less card. spending $1500 on a card specifically for ray tracing in 1080p60fps is just plain silly.

ill play CP2077 on my One X and Scarlett in the meantime

I'm waiting for the RX 680 to come out. Should run just about anything @ 60 fps, 1080p.

No. 2080Ti will do 1440 resolution at 50-60+fps with ray tracing easy.

You're going to be waiting a long time for a $500 card that will run this game at 60+FPS with ray tracing at 1440 resolution. Like...at least 18-24 months from now.

The new Nvidia Super cards will probably drop the price of current RTX line a little. But probably only a little. 5-10% reduction probably, if that.

I can always throw another 2080Ti in later on when the price comes down more for 4K.

damn this spec convo is making me anxious. I'm on:

    Intel i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50 GHz
    16 GB RAM
    GTX 650Ti

obviously need to upgrade the video card and add to my memory quite badly, but will my CPU handle the game?

I'd just get out from under that system altogether. It's time for an overhaul. What DDR series is your memory? I'm assuming with old specs like that, your MOBO doesn't even support modern memory.

    I dunno...
Doing more research on the subject - I think it is entirely feasible that a 2080Ti will run it on max settings with rt at 1440 with at least 50+fps.
Primarily because ray tracing is brand new essentially and I don't get the idea that any of the current games supporting it are nearly as optimized as as they can be for it based on various things I'm reading and seeing on YouTube on the subject. Meanwhile CP2077 is still almost a year out - and they're working side by side with the RTX team to ensure the games ray tracing is as smooth as possible. It will probably be the most optimized ray tracing game yet when its launched.

If you plan to upgrade to the "super" version of the card (although sources are 50/50 if there will be a new Ti version of this), it's more probable. They're supposed to be adding more ray tracing technology into the refreshed cards.

Not concerned at all with any shortcomings the game may or may not have at the moment. It's still 10 months out. Plenty of time to tighten things up.
The core of the game is likely well done. At this point they'll probably just be focusing on refining and tightening everything up.

Watching interviews done with people on CDPR's dev team, even they admitted a lot of things are still a work in progress. I wouldn't get overly concerned about the combat yet. A giant team has nearly ten months to simply refine mechanics.

Main thing holding me back is I really dont have the space for a desktop and I refuse to game on a laptop.
HDR on a console > any graphical advantage of pc

I really wish Microsoft would get HDR working on pc so I could have the best of both worlds

HDR is as big of a leap in gaming as going from VHS to Blu-ray or eating at McDonald's vs a 3 Michelin star restaurant

It's night and day. You will be amazed how washed out games look when you turn off HDR
