Heh, except I've never had a serious illness. I've never broken a bone. I've never sprained an ankle or tore a muscle or anything. The only time I can remember going to the doctor for anything important is getting a wart frozen off like 10 years ago. I can't even swallow pills, so if I was sick I wouldn't be able to take anything.

Yea but with car insurance you can atleast choose what level of coverage you want and then compare different insurance companies and get the best price. With FSU, you are forced to have a certain level of coverage with certain benefits which happens to fall into a set coverage for whatever company they use. But if you try to go to your own insurance to get a better price, some of the mandatory things they want fall into 1 level and some fall into a higher level. So you are stuck getting the higher level. Not to mention, during this whole time talking with FSU to figure out what insurance passes their requirements and calling various insurance companies to get prices, you are not allowed to sign up for any classes.
EDIT:
Then supposedly Graduate Assistants get a couple hundred dollars discount, which is supposed to be automatic reimbursement which obviously doesn't happen because that would make too much sense. So then you have to give a few dollars out of your paycheck a month to the Graduate Assistant Union to go fight for you to get the money you deserve. I mentioned to them how I pay for the insurance and never use it, and they said you should get some of the money back for never using it as well. So now I have to start emailing/calling FSU to see if that is true and have the Union help me get my money back for that sh!t as well.
And I don't take a multi.1372 @ 205

Yes, I understand the point of health insurance is taking insurance against the chance of getting hurt or sick or whatnot. But you should have the choice of taking the insurance or taking the risk of going without insurance. And at FSU, when I was an undergrad, it was a choice. But now, not sure why, they changed the rules and made it mandatory. I don't know if its a state law they put through or if its just at FSU but I don't think they have the right to force me to take insurance. I know my health better than them and I never get hurt/sick, so at this age, it would be smarter to bet on taking the risk of no insurance.

Ok say you opt out and then get cancer or have a heart attack or get in a serious car wreck do really think you are going to opt out of health care then? Are you really going to refuse medical health because you don't have health insurance. I'm betting no.. and then the rest of us get to flip your health care cost.

While this is true, the government should not force us to purchase anything. Yes, it is responsible to own insurance, buy its also responsible to have a minimum of 6 months wages saved in a savings account. When will we be forced to do that?
Don't really wanna debate politics in here though, sp feel free to delete this Bill. Ill still les than three you.

Free health insurance in the military. Just another option.

That is if the health insurance even covers that. Also, this is from their insurance plan:
"All full-time students new to Florida State University are required to maintain adequate health insurance coverage. Returning (grandfathered) and eligible part-time students are encouraged to have health insurance as well."
So new students have to get insurance but returning students don't have to. So your reasoning can't really be the same reasoning FSU has for making insurance mandatory, though your reasoning is very good.
EDIT:
Also, who decides what is considered "adequate"? Does it cover alcohol poisoning, rape, and contraceptives/abortions since that is what students at FSU like to do?1372 @ 205

Ou doesn't require us to have insurance and they clinics that we can go to based off income scales. So grad students that aren't making much money (and that's most lol) then health services and dental services. All income based.
We also have the option of buying insurance through the school..

Lol, I've never gotten into an accident. Unless you count me completely stopped and a lady, on 2 separate occasions, rear ending me with basically no damage as an accident. And I've only gotten 1 speeding ticket 6 years ago.
Lol, I'm not indian and I was born in Florida so what am I trying to integrate into?1372 @ 205
