8 yrs is a long time. FL and TX heat always seem pretty rough on them, talked to more than one person who replaces batteries every 2-3 yrs, even in cars sometimes. as you note, with regular use is a big deal, and keeping them on a tender makes a huge improvement too.

Maybe I've just had good luck when it came to batteries. My 03 sv still had its factory battery when I totaled it a few months ago. My 05 330i still has it's original also.

It's not uncommon for a battery to go 8 years, but most producers say if you get 7 years out of a battery, regardless of climate, you did well.

If you're somewhere with cold winters and hot/humid summers, 5 years is doing well for a battery.

Just got the butt plugs DN recommended. They're great but if you have small ear canals like me you'll have to really really roll these things before you can get a good fit. I'll wear them through the night so they break in.





I won't be able to hear shiet on the road now lol. I can barely hear my clicky mechanical keyboard as I type this. How long do you wear these till you toss em?

i had an interstate battery go bad in about 18 months in the GTO down here. interstate gave me prorated discount on the new one. heat fries 'em though.

Per Pedro's FB, T11 - 177 mph down to 113 mph in 130 meters on 11% downward slope - all on one wheel, then further down to 56 mph at the apex. Heroic.

I like where the SV is now but there's still so much I want to do that would make it look really sick.

- gsxr front end
- get rid of the poverty DIY fender elim which was supposed to be temporary until I buy a proper/clean one (but its been 2 years now lol)
- nice rearsets
- nice levers
- penske shock

pretty expensive list... Idk if its worth putting into the sv or saving up for a nice newer bike. But I got so much life shiet going on that I dont even think about buying parts/bikes... just ride whenever I can and worry about spending money on nice stuff when I finally "make it".

Save up for a newer bike brah. No offense/not trying to be negative but that bike could easily be totaled tomorrow. No point in dumping cash in a bike that old. Only way it would be justifiable imo is if you were restoring it.

it's gonna be a while until I make that decision so its not something I'm seriously thinking about now. Ideally I'd like to keep the sv, make it nice (maybe make it a track bike), and buy another new bike too. Who knows...

so you've been to daytona too? sadly, when i rode the first chopper i built in FL 100 mi to daytona, a guy complimented me on the road grime strip up my back because he knew i'd actually ridden it there and not trailered it.

i didn't build OCC garage queens, mine got ridden. just rode the gripper 1200 miles to daytona last fall. alternator died and had to haul it back, but 1200 miles on a garage build ain't so bad.

carbon fiber must be the chrome equivalent in sport bikes. looks cool, doesn't make it more dependable.

I had a decent time there but haven't been to any other rallies since and really have no desire to go to another.

The best is sportbike stuff that is painted to look like carbon fiber but actually isn't. You can buy fenders, fender elim kits, mirrors, chain guards, etc all painted up with no legit usage other than aesthetics. I can't really blame the manufacturers or the guys who buy them because everyone wants nice looking things.

asked a buddy of mine in jax one time if he wanted to go to daytona with me. he's a real biker, and he said "no, i hate the smell of new leather."
