I have looked around and I think my first meet will be on Jan 4th... but I have much less experience than you guys do.
I'm getting happy with my technique, but I realized I'm just not strong enough because I have spent so much time on technique and have yet to really commit to getting stronger. I finally have the last month or so and my squats and pulls are already soaring, but I'm wondering if I need at least 6 months or so to really push my strength up before I consider competing? It seems like most guys who start competing have spent quite a bit of time working on strength and technique concurrently... anyone have an opinion on this? There is a meet March 8th near me as well, so I wouldn't be waiting much longer if that was the case.
I've always been kind of naturally strong, so I think I just need to keep working hard and give it time, just wondering about anyone else's opinion (had a 130+ kg bench at 87 kgs when I was 16 years old playing football in high school, but we had a jammer machine which was alright for legs and overall power, so I was a tool and said f*** squats and deadlifts lol)

what do you guys do for mobility, ive been having really bad sessions due to this. my class schedule has me in front of a computer or sitting at a desk from 8:30 to 5pm and then when I do get home im back sitting in front of my computer doing homework. I stretch and roll out before bed but I just negate all that by sitting at a desk the next day

not sure how you guys get through a first meet without a coach (or experienced lifter there acting as your coach), counting attempts and **** is crucial for timing your warmups...

I'll give my advice for comps (god knows I've lifted in enough of them over the years) for all you guys and gals competing for the first time.
First, at a minimum, about 2 weeks out from the meet, start planning your openers for both lifts. Then plan your warm-up, this should as close to your normal warm-up as possible that you do when you work up to a max. Example: (opening with 90kg) bar work, 40-50kg for a couple sets of 2-3 reps, then 60kg for a double or 2 to make sure you're hitting solid lifts, then 70kg x 1, 80kg x 1, 85 x 1, then ready for opener. This is a total of 8 sets at the high end. That means you plan 3 lifts between each set. So, for 8 sets, you would go to the cards and count every attempt below your opener. You have to make some assumptions as to the 2nd and 3rd attempts, but you can usually do that. If there are less than 24 attempts before your opener, then start early enough to be hitting your warm-up set at the right place. Don't rush yourself, and don't start too early.
Second, as to your attempts, I usually have lifters take no more than 5kg jumps in snatch, and no more than 7-10kg jumps in CJ. For a 90kg, you would go 90 / 95 / 98-100 depending on your PR and how you feel. 1st to 2nd attempts in CJ can be a little higher, 7-10kg, but 2nd to 3rd attempt should be no more than 5kg.
After you weigh in, try and find someone who looks like a coach and introduce yourself and see if they know anyone who may be willing to help. Have your warm-ups on a 3 x 5 card, snatch on one side, CJ on the other. This is especially helpful if you find someone willing to help you time your lifts.
As you get closer to your comp, try and work up to heavy attempts using your warm-up schedule and adjust as necessary.
Hope this helps, as I see a lot of lifters aiming for first meet!!Training log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=168969133

Yeah I just had a friend come and tell me when I was in the hole, but other then that I had no real plan. I don't think it would of made a difference, it would have been nice getting an attempt in the back room between my snatch opener and my second snatch, but it is alright.

Having a platform coach changes EVERYTHING. trust me. Timing is critical for nerves especially.
Took me like a year to narrow it down lol.
I sit at a desk for 8 hours and sit in my car for another 2+ commuting but I'm good to go once I mobilize.Snatch: 122

I think there is another one at the end of November in Columbus. I will probably do that. Who knows if I will be much better as I am trying to increase some of my general strength. I need to get stronger in the positions.
There is another 25 $ meet this weekend in Grafton which is an hour or so north of me this weekend.
I am planning on going to Rubber City Weightlifting this Saturday or next to train with those guys.
Also what is a good place to be at with percentages in relation to your back squat.
CJ/BS = .80
Snatch/CJ = .80
I am trying to use that to see how efficient I am with my lifts and trying to get my snatch and clean and jerk higher.Pigs get feed. Hogs get slaughtered.

After my meet on 11/24, I'm planning on doing a Russian squat program in an effort to squat 200kg by the end of the year. This will probably mean dropping to 1-2 days max on the classic lifts, but I think it will be worth it. My technique is **** and it probably won't ever be much better, so I might as well get stronger.

Dan Bell? I've never met him in person, but he does seem like kind of a dick. He's very hard on Pendlay and McCauley's nuts as well. Basically parrots everything they say. Not talking **** about the guy, he's probably a good coach, just how he comes across online sometimes.
