Sorry I'm not too familiar with the language. What's a split sleeve?

It's a distinctive design of a York bar.

I think this image is up thread somewhere, see how on the "inner" collars there is a line? The inner most portion is welded to the bar, the outer portion is part of the sleeve.

sorry this pic is small, I can't find a bigger one. Try a search for vintage York bar on this site and you'll find close ups of the sleeves.

It's the difference between these two pics. The first one being a York split sleeve and the second being an example of every thing else.

Got it... from the second picture doesn't it look to be a split sleeve then?

Listed at $100 for all of it, good deal? I don't have a power rack at this point (and won't for the next year) but it looks like a good deal in my eyes.
Yeah, that stuff's the real deal. How much is the seller asking?
You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?

Yeah. If the price was as low as it would be for a Cap barbell and four Cap plates, you should jump on the deal!

I was actually going to make a post saying "too late, I already bought it...................that's what I'd be saying if I was in the area".

I'm still waiting to hear if I'll end up with a free York bar from a local College. Fingers crossed. Seeing a room full of York bars in person made me want one 10 times more. They always look "okay" in pictures, but it's a whole different ballgame seeing them in person. I've been using crap CAP bars forever.

I picked up some stuff on Friday from CL. It came with with 10 plates. I didnt know at the time but when I picked up the stuff 8 of the plates were York Barbell. In the CL ad the seller didnt have any close up pics of the stuff. I know these plates aren't that old but I was wondering about what year were they made?

The 25 lb plates I didnt get yet but was wondering about what year they are. These plates look old.

    Thanks

I was just searching ebay and found a seller that had two 20lb plates that is listed as from the 1940's. They look similar to the 25's I posted except the lettering looks some bigger. Do you think the 25's could be from around that time frame? Maybe the 1950's or so?

I was looking for olympic size plates but was considering the 25's just because of their age...

I think that the 20s are the rarest of the 'newer' plates because they only made them for a few years. I remember reading that the earlier York standard plates had 'Bar Bell' while the later words had 'barbell', as a single word, on the plate.

    Good info

I didn't really look at the spacing of "barbell" until you said about it. On the 25# plate it is all one word. About what year do you think the 25's would be from?

Guessing the 25s are from 50s/60s. Despite their age, they are pretty common. Like I said earlier, the 20s are scarce and worth more. I just stumbled across a pair while shopping on vacation and will be listing them on EBay soon.

50/60's is what I also thought. How much are you going to ask for the 20's? Where are you located in PA?

They kept one set of the older hex DB's............and were going to scrap all the rest. I told them I'd take them off their hands. I ended up with a set of 40-95 lb hex DB's. I'm not sure what happened to the pro-styles......I think they may have scrapped them before I got to them. Ouch.

Anyways, while I was there picking up the hex DB's they said they might have an extra bar or two. I looked around......York barbells all over the place! They didn't mention a price for the DB's, so I told them I'd buy something for the weight room. I said maybe I'd buy them a new York barbell for one of their new racks. The guy who ordered all their equipment (head FB coach) gave me a funny look. I said "That will match what you already have right? Those are all York barbells." His face was blank.....he had never heard of York. At any rate - I'll hopefully be getting one or two York barbells shortly.

I got these today from craigslist.

    45x2

    35x2
    10x2
    5x4
    2.5x2

The gray plates, are they the ones that were sold in sporting goods store? On the craigslist ad they looked to be a light blue but in person they are gray. Any info on about what year the gray plates are and the 45's? I have a feeling that none of it was made in the USA but for only $.24 cent a pound I wasnt going to turn them down!

Also got all of this from another craigslist seller

    50x2 (not York)
    25x4
    10x4
    5x4
    2 1/2 x4
    1 1/4 x2
    1 1/4 x2 (Hercules)
    2 1/2 (Billard)

Does anyone know brand the 50's are that don't have a name on them? On a pair of the York 10's, their is a O under the LBS. Does this mean anything?

I think I remember reading that the Hurcules were made by York, correct? Around what year were they made?

In a post above I asked about what year of the 25's. 50's/60's most likely and it was said that the "earlier" plates had the name "Barbell" spread apart. On Ebay I saw some 20's where the seller said 1940's. On the 10's,5's and 2.5's I just got are this way so they are most likely from the 40's, maybe early 50's??

I got all of this stuff for roughly $.39 cent a pound and it also came with 2 standard straight bars, curl bar and a tricep bar. No York bars though. Also was a dumbbell handle that looks old but I forgot to get a pic of it. Will get one later...

I got some of the gray plates cleaned up today. Still have the 35's to do which are the worse. Sometime I might take a wire brush to them and then repaint but for now I will leave them the way they are.

Has anyone seen these gray colored plates before?

What's better than having one pair each of the 80's York 15-kg, 20-kg, and 25-kg bumpers?

Having two pair of each. . . .

You need a good rack, a bench, and a 300-lb Olympic weight set. Now, what was your question?
