I love that one. Notice how he manags to make every possible squating mistake and every possible Smith machine mistake at the same time. What a multitasker.

He's got some sweet gloves though, damn. Where does a guy go about getting some sweet gloves to die in?
When he went all the way to the ground, I thought maybe...just maybe he was going to recover by doing the world's coolest good morning. Didn't happen.....▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

I'm not going to be in any power meets, just personal goal and a friendly challenge with a high school friend. I'll make sure the tops of my legs get below parallel (those were the rules we set). Although for most workout purposes, I'll continue to go to the floor.
This may cause me some problems too. I've got a trip to Las Vegas in mid May, but I'm hoping I don't gain a lot of weight and can shed it the month before. This could set me back some, but our real deadline is our 25th high school reunion. It hasn't been scheduled yet, but I'm assuming it will be late Sept or Oct.
Thanks for the link

The weather is great here, but they are threatening us with a winter storm advisory for late tomorrow, so I have to enjoy it while I can.
Side note, way OT, anyone ever hunted crows? We are getting a heck of a lot of them around here and they are driving away all the other birds, emptying our feeders and making pains of themselves. Plus I understand they love duck and goose eggs, we have several breeding pairs that visit our pond every spring whom I'd like to make sure get the best chance for their chicks.[]---[] Equipment Crew Member No. 11

Sounds like we're on the same weather pattern Tim. I actually opened the pool cover yesterday. No....not wishful thinking or anything.....we have an auto cover on it and I was just curious what the water looked like since this is our first winter with it. Point is, everything is melted now and although its supposed to get cold again, the 60 degree days reminded me of what's around the corner.
I love me some spring time.......March makes me happy in the same manner that September makes me dreary.....▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

I got my starting point for the squat today. It was a little dissappointing, but it could have been worse considering how long its been. I did 275lbs ass to floor (no bounce). I tried stopping at parallel, but it just didn't feel right. I remeber now why I hated squats. The odd thing is that I didn't stall at the bottom like I did in years past. I was able to come out of the bottom pretty easy, it was around parallel that I stalled.

"I don't have time to lift, I make time"
Once, at my local gym, I went into the locker room to take a leak. There was this little hairy, naked guy (probably my age) with it swinging down to his knee. He was really showing it off and smiled at me (WTF?!?) and winked. Me, being me, told him out loud, "if you want to impress me with that, have it hold up a barbell with 2 plates a side."

Disappointing?
Doesn't that put your total numbers at around 890lbs???? Dude..... you'll reach your goal in 3 months if you stick with this....I'm not even kidding. 110lbs when your already lifting that much and you just started working on it is next to nothing. You've got 3 lifts to cover any amount of plateau you think you might hit. Trust me (and I'm still a novice as far as I'm concerned, but I did lift 1000lbs)..... you're gonna be just fine.
Also, if you're going ATG and getting 275...why even go back to parallel? Read the first exercise section in "Starting Strength"....which is squats and he'll explain why people prefer this. Its really supposed to help your knees and make the lift better. I can't speak to the A&P side of this, but when I really concentrated on the lift...I could feel a slight amount of relief on my knees once I got all the way down.
Good luck, but you're gonna do fine.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

I have. They are as cunning as sh!t.
You need a good bluff / hide out, and you'll only get one shot, so you had better not miss.
It's best if you can shoot from 250 -300 yards, so you want a half decent rifle. I use a Sako in 22-250.
Once the crows realise you are shooting, they'll make themselves scarce whenever humans are around.
After you have shot your crow, hang the carcass on the fence / farm gate. This will scare off all of his old buddies.

I' be using a .22lr partly for noise partly because I don't have a good smaller caliber rifle, so within 100 yards tops. Good news is there isn't any 100+ yard shots I could take on my property. either that or trying to call them into a decoy set and taking them on the wing. both sound like usefull fun to be had.

I was just hoping that my squat would be better than my bench. But yeah, it should climb faster than my bench. I think I read an excerpt from starting strength the other day, or it was part of the 5 x 5 stuff I read regarding squatting all the way down (it discussed the benefits of going all the way down).
I didn't intend to change from squatting all the way down to parallel for workouts, just for purposes of my total if it gave me a bigger number (competing with the high school friend). However, it doesn't appear going all the way down is lowering my number right now.
Talked my wife into trying to see how high she could push these lifts too. Although she doesn't bench so we substituted an overhead press - or maybe its called a push press - using leg thrust. She may change that to a lift from the ground to overhead - clean and jerk? What would be a respectable goal for her on these three lifts at 5ft 5inches and 125lbs (she hasn't done any of these lifts in probably 10 years - she mainly uses machines)?

My squats aren't all that much more than my bench either. When I hit that goal I benched 300 and squatted 320 or 325. I don't know if its a training issue, genetics, or physiology...............I don't worry about it much either. I turn 39 this week.....I'm just glad I'm still doing it.
It had a learning curve, but I think it helped me overall. If its better for you (theory...I realize) and its not hurting your lifts.....why not?
I'm not really qualified to give you an answer here.
I will say that personally........she's already got my respect because she's willing to contemplate doing these exercises. Most women won't, so good for her.
I'll also say that I'd say whatever she can lift is probably respectable. She'll get better......just like you, me and everybody else that sticks with it.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

I'm still playing around with nylon webbing. Here's what I came up with so far:
Suspension trainer. Also made a knotted loop to mount behind a closed door (hotel room). I can get a workout on vacation now. It should work well for hanging on a balcony rail for dips/pullups.
Neck harness & my old straps
Tire sled
Beautiful day indeed. It feels great to have consistency for an entire week! The wacky Texas weather finally calmed down, heh. Now that it's cool and breezy out, it's time to start sprinting again.

That's pretty sweet man! Especially for days when you can't workout in your own gym. I might have to do something like this.
And yea, this Texas weather is just nuts. Snow and ice one week and 70 degrees next. The people up north will make fun of this statement there is a "cold front" moving in tomorrow that will take us back down to the 40's for a few days. Really makes my allergies go crazy
On another note: I have been noticing how much I grit my teeth on major lifts lately. How many of you guys are using mouth pieces?[]---[] Equipment Crew #29 []---[]

I grit mine too. About 15 years ago I was straining so bad I was straining or pulling muscles in my head...which I didn't even know was possible. I was getting headaches after lifting that would put me in a fetal position for 45 minutes and I'm not prone to any type of severe headache at all. Ended up going to the doctor who explained what I was doing and suggested a mouth guard.
I used just a typical sports mouthpiece for years. However, in the last couple of years I've also been diagnosed as a sleep grinder, so my dentist made me a custom dental piece for sleeping to keep this from happening. I've taken to wear it when I work out to and it works.
Downside.... the professional custom mouth guard was over $500.
Upside..... the sports mouth piece I used to get at Walmart worked too!
I really needed to get the custom piece though because I was starting to notice some grinding when I was awake and focused on something.....and the dental techs were noticing damage to my teeth even before they knew my history.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

I used to clench my teeth while lifting. Once I realised what I was doing I made it a point to stop. Sory, guys, while sleep griding and habitual grinding are medical issues, tensing your jaw while lifting with your legs is poor concentration on form. Thats where I would start with fixing it.
My wife is also a sleep grinder. Her dentist just had her get these though.
