From my journal post yesterday:
Cardio wasn't very entertaining this morning. The guy that the front desk refers to as "Bizzaro" didn't show. Generally on MWF, this guy comes in with dark sunglasses, huge earphones, combat boots, cut-offs, and a mesh shirt. Always walks thru the front door with an unlit cig dangling from his mouth until he gets to the machines. He usually starts off standing on the Seated Shoulder Pull-down Machine directly in front of the Elliptical that I'm on and proceeds to do Tricep Push-downs. Some of his other exercise antics defy description. Know that a description isn't worth anything without a pic but the gym has a strict policy against taking pictures of any sort.Inactivity Kills!!!

only two things piss me off at the gym
1) people see me drink protein, comes up and ask me does that make me fat or get me bigger if i take it. i rather not i want to earn my muscle naturally.
So yo take creatine? I don't because it is cheating it make your muscle bigger.
2) another thing i hate is a person who lofts with his friend, and he tries to do the same weight as his bigger friend but obviously can't. So he picks up the barbell on flat bench bring it down 1inch and push for 5 reps lol, either that or the friend spot him on all 5 reps and scream lightweighy! you got thisPush as hard as you can
until you can't push anymore
Then push for one more

I stopped smoking about 4 years ago without ever looking back and wanting to go back. At school last semester, I was enjoying our commons area that has a nice little pond until someone came up and sat next to me and asked if I minded if they smoked. I replied, "Not at all....mind if I fart?" Wasn't that Steve Martin who said that? LOL

I never have the problem of getting hit on in the gym....with short hair and being a bit bulky for a woman, even gay men don't look my way, LOL. If I wear makeup, I do look feminine. Rumors from this insecure woman at my former gym have been that I take steroids....this is not the first time she has attempted to spread lies about me. But really. I lost weight naturally....why would I want to get strong and fit unnaturally? No shortcuts for me.

"She" appears to need an FF cup bra....and unfortunately, in the fitness world, anyone can call themselves a trainer. Although certification does not mean everything, with experience and education with top certifying bodies that have stringent guidelines, it makes all the difference. Knowledge is good, but if you cannot demonstrate properly an exercise you want your client to do, you can verbal cue it all you want and they might never get it. Verbal cues and proper form demonstration go hand in hand....so does being a living example of physical fitness....that does not mean that one has to look like a bodybuilder, but their physique should at least look like one that says, "this person leads by example in their fitness lifestyle". On the other hand, when it comes to overweight or obese population coming to train for a weight loss goal, they might feel a bit less intimidated by someone that looks about as out of shape as they do. But as large as I have been, that has never been the case in my training. Athletic personal trainers motivate me to progress in my own athleticism.
Sorry so long-winded....been a lonnnnng day!

From this morning:
People that distract you in the middle of your set by removing plates from the pegs on the side of the squat rack or bench. FFS wait until I'm done my set before you go rummaging around when I have 400 lbs on my back.
And yes, ya goof, I did need that 5 lb plate as well for my next set, but I'll go find another one now.Insta: flexjs

*Those who put all their stuff on one machine and work out on the one next to it...during prime time hours
*Talking to me when I have my ear buds in during a set..."clueless"
*Not cleaning off the machine after use...no matter what you think, it's not sexy to leave your sweat behind for the next guy
*The one mile stares from those insecure idiots who think they're all it...really??
*Taking plates from the machine I"m using during my sets...what's wrong with those plates on the tree behind you?
*Guys who use the smith machine to do 10lbs bench presses with the occasional 5lbs plate on and off for like 30 minutes...and they really think they're onto something when they see you staring thinking wtf??
*Asks if he can work in to impress me with his lifting capabilities and expecting me to load a ton of plates on his behalf like I should be honored to do so..."gym rats on crack"
*Guess it all comes down to lack of courtesy and respect, what gets me the mostLast edited by losgatosfrank; 04-04-2012 at 07:45 PM.

I am new to this sport. This thread gives great examples of what I should not do.
The loud "music" some folks put on drowns out my Ipod head phones, and hurts my ears at times, thinking of foamy ear plugs.
I will now besure to always off load wieghts and never walk between mirror and athelete. Thanks
As the world gets smaller we get to interact with so many differant concepts of proper behavior.
My fun experience (here in Afghan) was showing a guy how the hand washing sink works. He was so amazed by the hot and cold water.

I'm with you on this, it shouldn't matter how much weight is on the bar, if any. I will not mess with someone's equipment during their set and don't feel at all wrong in expecting the same. I need a plate and someone is on the bench or in the rack or whatever and between sets, I'll ask if they need it.
Simple courtesy, I try my best to give it and I don't feel wrong for expecting it.
Odd you mentioned trainers. The most common guilty party happens to be a trainer. Usually if I'm annoyed at anything in the gym lately, it involves a trainer. Now cutting: Got a little more squishy than I wanted, heading down to 160lbs and seeing how things look.

Great post my friend, there are so many things but I think the one thing that tops them all are the guys who scream really loud..... I mean rather than breathing correctly to perform the exercises they feel the need to scream super loud as if this is going to help! And the funny thing about that is in so many cases it is some very inexperienced person doing dumbbell bench presses with 10 pounds in each hand.....lol!
