Specically Shot Putters, Discuss Throwers, Javelin Throwers and Hammer Throwers, I reckon after Olylifters,Powerlifters and Strongmen these guys are strongest athletes on planet.
They might even be on par with them. Geoff Capes won Worlds Strongest man twice and was the record holder in the shott putt i think?

Anyone Know what Throwing Athletes can lift?

I don't remember the name but there was a UCLA thrower who closed the #3 first try, no grip experience. Also benched a decently easy 495, not the first time but still awesome strength.

Well ...
Javelin throwers tend to be more lightly built than the others you mentioned ... so their numbers probably won't be spectacular (strong, but not "strongman strong").
The other 3 (shot putters, discuss throwers and hammer throwers) can be INCREDIBLY strong.
Strongman great Geoff Capes was an Olympic shot putter and highland games athlete. He squatted and deadlifted in the 800 pound range and benched over 500. I've heard highland games champion Ryan Vierra can squat 700-800 pounds as well.
I trained with a few guys who did shot put back in college. All of them could handle over 500 pounds for reps on the squat and could bench 4 plates for a few. These weren't world class throwers, just Canadian collegiate athletes.

at my school I saw a guy lifting. Heres the things that I saw when I was a freshman and he was a junior.
I witnessed
a 365 lb clean and jerk on a normal bar
a set or 405x5 front squats
a set of 335x10 incline benching
I talked with somebody who also threw and he said that he had squatted over 700 in his time at Rutgers. So yeah, pretty strong.Team Super Awesome!

Besides athletes who train speacificly for barbell sports or strongman they are most likely the strongest/most powerfull/ most explosive athletes around.
Powerlifting

Bench- 280 - 255 x 3
Deadlift-460 - 402 x 6
Total - 1110
Olympic lifting
front squat - 257
Clean - 242
squat + Behind the neck jerk - 222
C + J - 210

Throwers are strong guys, thats a given. From my experience they are more like WSM athletes then lift specific. A thrower might not be able to bench 800 lbs raw but he could probabaly get 400-500 bench and a much greater clean, jerk, or snatch then a powerlifter would.
Some guys train specifically with olympic lifts and have great results, others use hybrid training with powerlifting and olympic lifts. Most of them are going to be strong all around when compared to someone who might specialize in the bench or deadlift.

Here's Randy Barnes (WR holder in the shot put) benching what looks like close to 500lbs.

Here is a movie with finnish javelin thrower tero pitkamaki where he benches 160 kgs and snatches 120 kgs. There's also another youtube video where he does hang cleans with 150 kgs.
But I have to add: ALL those lifts look terrible.

Here's a strong thrower formerly of USC, now on the world team, Noah Bryant:

I've talked with him a bit about Olympic lifting. He really loves it.
Many throwers are very strong. Look up Jarred Rome's bb.com articles from a few years ago.

Christian Cantwell benches over 600 raw
Manuel Martinez of Spain is around 660 on the bench
Udo Beyer squatted some 450kg, and there are claims of a REDICULOUS behind the neck press of over 600 lbs.. and i don't have a pic of him
point being, world class throwers are rediculously strong.Best RAW competition lifts
Bench - 375
Squat - 500
Deadlift - 610
Best shot put - 16.71 m (54'10")

A guy at my high school won nationals twice for shot and once for disc and hammer, he could bench 600 raw, squat 700+, sprint at a state competitive level, at 18 yo. He's a track coach now at Illinois i think.
edit: this was in USA, massachusetts
you can see him throw in this video: check out the background

What makes them so strong? THe type of training they do? Or is it partly that the type of people who make it far in throwing sports are genetically gifted with strength?
Out of curiousity, how do they train?
And I agree with the above poster who said they make scary boxers

Where are you getting these numbers? Sounds like a load of crap to me to be frank.
There are only 47 official 600+ benchpresses in the entire world. If that Manual Martinez bloke benches 660 he would be ranked 8th in the world on benchpress.
As for the 990 squat... you must be dreaming. The biggest raw squat I believe is 948lbs by Marc Henry and there are only 7 people who have ever officially squatted over 900 raw.
I'm not saying that throwers aren't strong- there's no doubt that they are.. I'm just saying your pulling numbers out of your butt.
Just to prove that I'm not pulling numbers out of mine here's a link to where all those records are:

A lot. I threw in high school against current NCAA QB Adam Tafralis. (He liked football more) his father, Greg Tafralis was a USA olympic shotputter, I do believe that he wasn't natural, but I remember his numbers being outrageous.
googled: claims: 880lb squat, 638lb bench, clean&jerk 520, no gear. vertical jump 33"...
threw 72'1.75", but tested pos for steroids I think. He's pretty short for a thrower, 6'0" even, but weighed about 300lbs. I saw him bench 475 for reps at what...50years old back in high school. Rediculous.*Mods/CS will not, nor can they change your username, so don't ask*

Agree the 600lb neck press and 990lb squat sound absurd. However i think the 600+ bench presses are defintely belivable especially considering it probably not to any strict rules which powerlfters have to abide do.
I read an article on elite FTS which said that was a strong correlation between how much an athlete could bench and throw. So it seems like if your shot putter you can never ever get too strong on bench. It wouldnt even surprise me to find out that after powerlifters shot putters are next strongest bench pressers
