No, not at all.
However, it is really a choice in the life that was given to us.
Is it really worth it to drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, use prescription drugs, work 12 hours a day in stress causing cancer or depression, or have migraines and all kinds of injuries from professional sports?...
Another question is this: Is steroid only thing to blame in his or other's deaths or was it just a small factor whereas there were several other larger factors like genetics, diets, etc.
--
All these deaths make me very uncomfortable and sad too but there are also many bodybuilders out there who lived in to their 60's and 70's with steroids and insane diets. We need a research on this subject to have a better opinion. I feel like you should really question one's sanity if their doctor told them to stop and they repetitively got bad blood work and scans.
Most important thing here to say is rest in peace Vince ComerfordGrainy hardcore religious slabs of thick dense muscle. So grainy that it hurts your eyes

I feel it's a symptom of the insane amounts pros are using these days, as well as new stronger compounds and things like growth/insulin that wasn't used back in the day.
Seems like many of the golden era guys ended up fine for the most part. Zane, Columbu, Robinson, Drasin, Arnold, Ferrigno, etc. are all still ticking well into their 60's and 70's.*Korean Crew*

In the random IFBB thread there was a link posted to his last imterview he did with Shawn Ray 2 years ago, after reading it Vince said his heart attacks were due to part family history, recreational drugs and steriods, he had an enlarged heart.
The guy had lived a very varied life and ended up doing a degree in philosophy. He had more life experience at 52 than most who live a boring life and die at 100.

It makes me feel old when I see how many of you weren't familiar with Comerford. Not that I blame you. Things were different back then - the only source of bodybuilding news was those magazines, so anyone who got a cover back then was instantly famous. I did sometimes confuse him with Troy Zuccolotto though. If you look at photos of them side by side they are very different, but at the time they both had that blonde California Muscle Beach persona going on.
Vince was definitely great.

I grew up in the Haney and Dorian era so I know this guy of course. He was pretty much well known and was exposed in bodybuilding magazines in the late '80s to early '90s. He reminds me of Craig Titus.
Another one to die relatively young. But don't panic people. Frank Zane is almost 72, Arnold is pushing 67, Franco Columbu is 72, Albert Beckles is 83, Robby Robinson is 68, Boyer Coe is 67, Mike Katz is 69, Ken Waller is 72. I can go on. Majority of the old timers are breezing through their 60s and 70s and 80s as if age really is just a number. These guys are all still in very good shape or at least relatively healthy and fit. And by the way, Joe Weider died at 93 years old.

"Optimum Nutrition fan and endorser."
If Arnold Schwarzenegger is the heart of bodybuilding, Joe Weider is the soul. If Arnold Schwarzenegger is the king of bodybuilding, Joe Weider is the God.
Been into bodybuilding since 1991, non-stop and constant.
I looked 10 years younger for my age the day I turned 33. The pattern remains the same every year. But I want to look 80 like Sean Connery.
I practice science, art, sport and philosophy, therefore, I'm a bodybuilder.

I would just like to say (and point out), that we all are seeing many a former top bodybuilder die prematurely. Everybody has a different opinion on why, some say steroids has nothing to do with it..... What most people here don't know is, how many former hard core bodybuilders who were not well known (not everybody made the cover of magazines) have died prematurely?
So many of my personal bodybuilding friends have passed away in their 40's and 50's. Only 1 of my non-bodybuilding friends has died, he was in a car reck.
To me, the answer is crystal clear.
