That's a good question. I wanted to be stronger, and I thought it would help. I liked the fun of it, it was new. I didn't think it would hurt my raw strength, but it has. I still think gear is fun as hell, but I'm going to train raw for a while after December. Hopefully I don't get too bear up.

That's cool, I try to dissuade the newer members of my powerlifting club from getting into gear until they have a few meets under their belts and have built up a solid base of strength. Sadly the allure of an 800lbs squat usually wins out over my words and they go from squatting 400 raw to squatting 700 in briefs and knee wraps and a bulletproof suit in two months. It's super cool and exciting for a while but they usually end up pushing too hard too fast and they get hurt.
It sounds like that isn't going to happen to you. So that's good. It'd be like staying fat while running marathons because it's more impressive to finish a marathon when you're overweight. It might be impressive in the short run, but in the long run it just doesn't make any sense. ~breathinglife

Lol except wingspan is a bs measurement since it includes things like how wide your shoulders are and how long your fingers are. What size shoe you wear is probably a better estimate of whether you are built for bench over wingspan since your foot is the same size as the distance between your elbow and your wrist.
inb4 everyone tries to put their foot on their forearm to confirm
So you are saying I can up my squat to 763 by putting on some gear...interdasting.
EDIT:
With no LAM around, I'm pretty sure I can safely post this for people to laugh at without starting an argument.

Yes. It's almost immediate, side effects can include, but aren't limited to: High squatting; saying things like "what do you mean that's not deep enough, you put it on your back and lets see how deep you go"; blaming a missed lift on equipment being too tight; blaming a missed lift on equipment not being tight enough; joining the SPF; putting boards under your shirt when you bench; searching for meets where deadlifts aren't required; eventually "pulling a hamstring" and becoming bench only; anal leakage and many more.
Please talk to your doctor to see if multiply lifting is safe for you. It'd be like staying fat while running marathons because it's more impressive to finish a marathon when you're overweight. The muscles i value most are the ones directly surrounding the spine, the hips, the scapula, the femur and the tibia... in that order.
Basically the whole body minus chest and biceps... pretty much the opposite of what your local gym looks like on a typical Monday.

GUUUUUYZ!! So I deadlift & squat same day. When I do block pulls no problemo, did full deads today and the squats were a sloppy mess. For those that pull & squat same day, do you cut down the squat volume to compensate? I wana keep these same day, thinking of cutting squats to 3x3 on days when I do full rom deads

I wouldn't say scripted, but a little rehearsed. Regardless, I think it's pretty funny.

Much to the chagrin of my wife I've decided to grow my beard out.

The getting hurt part is what terrifies me. Since I've been training for powerlifting, I haven't had an injury that has laid me up. That is the longest (11 months) period of time I've ever gone without a debilitating injury. Cycling, climbing, running were all horribly injury prone for me. I'm going to back off after the meet and really focus on getting my raw strength up. I want to do 405/315/500 raw before I compete in gear again.
