Post new to bench did over head press before this

okay I finally got a spotter to spot me in bench. Before this I did starting strength only doing ohp. I was very surprised that I could get 135 20 times. I plugged this number into the one rep max calculater formula weightxrepsx.0333+weight and I found out that it was 225 and i was like 0.0. So a week later to ensure I was really ready for this I decided to try 205 out my second time benching. The freaking weight was to heavy for my wrists to support and I just couldnt do the rep. I was just wondering if this one rep max thing is boogus or if it just from only benching twice because I am going to start 5/3/1 and Welder said to use this formula and take 90% of that but I couldnt even bring the weight down.

Honestly nothing is better than just trying it. All those calculators are bogus. Just try for yourself.

I have actually found the calculators to be pretty accurate and useful. The only problem is that you need to get a gauge on something closer to 4-8 reps. Anything higher than that and you're going to have a harder time comparing fast twitch muscle to slow twitch. Some guys can crank out 225 for 15 reps, but arn't even close to throwing up 300. Same reason why if you want to up your 1RM, you need to do more sets or lower reps. I'm a huge fan of 8-5-3-3-3. It worked very well for me.
    Current weight- 200
    Bench max- 315
    Squat max- 335
    Deadlift max- 475
    Push press- 205x3

The farther away from "1" on the calculator (20 rep), the more error you introduce into an estimation. Put a 2-5 rep effort into the calculator, get a closer assessment.

Really. I wonder if this is related to bench progress?
