OP - had a long discussion with my father about this, a friend who's a math major and my fathers friend who is a math profession in college.

0.9999 repeating is = to 1 because there is no number between 0.9999 repeating and 1 therefore they are one and the same.

the correct answer is yes, 1=0.999999 repeating.

It goes along with thinking outside the box. Math was created by humans. Therefore humans have every ability to make it do what they want by nit-picking at specific rules and ignoring others.

Yep, but so many people - almost certainly including the OP and the actual intention of the thread, are confusing 0.999... and 0.999 (and 0.99, etc), and writing what they intend completely inaccurately, that what they write often offers poor to no indication of their actual position, and so clarification of this is good.

Hey, maybe I've a typo or two going on myself, catch me out please if I've made them, this thread doesn't need any more confusion. But some people are repeating the same mistake again and again, arguing their point about accuracy with complete inaccuracy. So yeah, clarification is good.
